I think this is the stmartest idea. You use this if you don't always want to change your settings on your compressor. I find this unit ideal for that. I can use my compressor for any project, but when I need a specific pressure, I pull this unit out, which I have preset already with a specific pressure from the last time I used my air tool and no need to go and adjust the compressor .. very good idea.. thanksI run an import business that we import European antiques. Over the years our restoration shop has fluctuated in staff size and we were operating only of a single air line. I purchased this unit so I could quickly reroute some air lines and allow for multiple guys to tap into the air tank. The thing I like about this is that I can set my tank at 110 psi and if one of my guys need to lower the psi for some nailing they can just switch their hose at the Dewalt regulator. As always it feels very solid and should be able to work in a worksite environment. The only criticism I have about the piece is the the gauge. The adjustment knob works fine but the plastic "x" that covers the regulator makes it a little difficult to quickly read the pressure and I really just do not understand why it is there. Seems like it would have been a better decision to just have an extra layer of plastic so visibility was better. Besides that small design flaw I am pleased with this purchase.
