I was researching hose reels and found a wide range of quality and price. I hate buying the cheap stuff at the local bargain store (you can pick one up for about $30). But I know these cheap ones always have problems, and I know the high quality ones work without any problems. I know the high quality ones are dependable and they can take a beating (I've worked in a number of places that have these). However, a high quality hose reel it can be $400+. So I thought I'd try this one out being that the price is reasonable.

So it's been installed for about 2 weeks now and I have to say that I love it. I've read some reviews where this model won't extend all the way out and/or won't retract all the way I didn't experience this at all. My hose reel extends the entire 50 feet, and it retracts all the way. You can even adjust the retraction force when the hose is almost fully wound I found that the force was too high the way it shipped, and the end would "SLAM" against the stop. So I adjusted it so that I can let it go at any length and it will retract all the way with a small "BUMP" at the end.

Mounting to the ceiling isn't very hard, but you do have to dis-assemble the reel from the stand to do it (this is where I learned you can modify the retraction force).

Shipping was super fast and it was double boxed, so the reel was in perfect condition.

The only gripe I have, is the hose itself. The picture shows a yellow plastic like external covering. I know these hoses get dirty and having that "slick" outer surface makes cleaning easy but my hose is the standard black rubber. It gets dirty laying on the ground and that black rubber can mark surfaces (just like a shoe scuff). The rollers that guide the hose back into position are already black (and it's only been 2 weeks). But that's my only gripe I'm pleased with reel and I didn't have to spend lots of money to get good quality.

I was surprised at the quality of this reel for the price. I had priced similar hose reels with 1/4 in hose locally for a lot more and was not even close to the quality of this reel. The 3/8 hose mounted to the reel is quality hose and allows a full flow of air to my tools. The fittings used on the reel are heavy duty and should last for years. I would and have recommended this hose reel to my friends.

This hose reel is really nice. The hose and reel are both very heavy duty and will surely last me for years to come. I just hung it up in my gargage last weekend. The only issue I am having is that it does not seem to catch (so it does not wind up) as easy as I would like. I have to fuss with it a bit. I am trying to find an adjustment to make this work better, but it is pretty good as it is.

I just purchased this hose reel after much research since it seems like the best value. It arrived well packaged (double boxed) and with no damage.

I decided to mount this on the ceiling of my garage. Since it is heavy enough to hurt someone if it fell I got a 2x2 foot piece of 3/4 plywood, cut it in half, and then glued & screwed the halves together. This gave me a strong mount that spanned two ceiling rafters. I inserted 4 carriage-bolts through from the top of the wood to serve as the mounting bolts for the hose reel.

Once everything was mounted the reel was very solid except that it there is some wobbling as you pull the hose out. This is because the actual reel mechanism is supported on just the one side (as you can see on the Amazon picture). To resolve that I cut a 14 inch piece of 1" by 1/8th steel bar and bent one end to meet the mounting wood and the other to meet one of the several unused holes on the side of the hose reel bracket. The unused holes in the bracket are 5/16 and will need to be drilled through to insert a bolt) I used 2 lag bolts on the end that attached to the plywood. Once that angled steel bar was in place it was much more stable.
