Our central a/c and heating unit has flooded our basement twice. Both times it was related to a clog in the condensation tube that drains out. Typically this happens in the spring (or when we have turned our A/C off for a vacation) when the water hits a clog that built up during dry periods.

The last time it was "repaired", the plumber used this device to blow out the clog. He also installed an access point (with a cap) so that I can try to keep the problem from recurring myself.

Because of the way our drain tube is installed, it is hard to focus air to the area that usually clogs. This device allows me to shoot a burst of air into just the part of the pipe that gets clogged. The hose is not long, but I just need to get a couple inches past the join that comes from the main unit.

I now have a calendar reminder to blow out the drain a couple times a year. No floods since I got this device.

UPDATE: I realize as I re-read this, that I did not specify that this product uses CO2 cartridges made by the manufacturer. Not sure if you could use "generics". This is an additional cost that should be factored into your purchase consideration. They can be pricey. However, I only blow out the tube twice a year (fall and spring), so a box of eight cartridges should last several years.

I must say that when the A/C tech came out and charged me $45 (half price) to use this tool on my drain line to clear it, I felt like I paid the stupid tax!! Although I use bleach in my drain, it wasn't enough to keep mine clear. So, now, I use this in addition to the bleach!! The cartridges are cheap (I bought them at a sports store: Academy), so I won't have to worry about this in the future!! This is a must have for any homeowner with an A/C (especially if the drain goes along the ground!!).

Wow! This thing is a lot better than lugging around an air compressor. We maintain a building with 75 split systems and the pvc drains have started to bow... This makes clearing them super simple. It takes one cartridge per use.

I highly recommend.
