I rented a Bostitch MIIIFS for the weekend to install hardwood floors and realized that it was going to take me a bit more time to complete the job.

After shopping around I found the Hardcore Tools HARDWOOD FLOORING AIR NAILER STAPLER. At a third of the price to buy the Bostitch and less than the cost to continue renting, I made the purchase.

The Hardcore stapler has a lower profile rear and forward allowing you to use it on the second row to and from the wall instead of the third row with the Bostitch, with our 3 ¼" boards. The Hardcore stapler is also lighter, reducing fatigue for this part-time-do-it-yourselfer. Quality is also good, and has held up well under my amateurish handling. This unit came with a great storage case, oil, spare base plate, and goggles making for a nice bundle.

The only minus to this tool is that it is less forgiving than the Bostitch in placement on the board, so I found myself having to adjust its position to avoid misstapling.

Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this stapler for the casual home remodeler.

I've never owned or used a paint sprayer before, but I wanted to try one for repainting our kitchen cabinet faces, doors and drawer fronts as part of an extensive renovation. This model was recommended to me for small-scale jobs where accurate control is important. Long story short it works great for that purpose.

The sprayer is easy to set up for use just a few simple parts that go together with no problems. The feed tube in the material cup can be angled in any direction, which allows you to tilt the sprayer as necessary to work on horizontal or vertical surfaces.

If you've ever used aerosol can spray paint, you can get comfortable using this sprayer in just a few minutes. It has two controls: one to adjust the spray pattern (I used the horizontal pattern exclusively) and one to adjust the volume of paint going through (about mid-point worked well for me). The spray pattern is very precise, allowing you to achieve almost brush-like control with minimal overspray. I disassembled my doors and drawer fronts and worked on them horizontally. The only limitation I encountered is that the whole assembly is kind of large, which limits how close you can get to horizontal material. I had a tendency to bump the paint cup against the work quite a few times before I got used to it. Vertical surfaces present no problem.

Clean-up is also very easy, at least with water-based paint. The clean-up instructions are described in detail in the manual, and it took me less than 20 minutes to get everything spotless and ready for the next job.

Now a couple of important points: First, the sprayer does indeed work with water-based latex enamel. The key is to thin the paint. Wagner sells a product for this purpose called 'Paint Easy'. I got a 32-ounce bottle, which is enough to thin about two gallons of paint, for a few dollars. The viscosity measuring tool included with the sprayer wasn't much help for me, but I just played it by ear and thinned the paint until it obviously flowed much easier. Second, it might take anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds after you press the trigger for the paint to actually start flowing out of the nozzle. Not knowing this the first time around, I almost gave up when I saw no paint coming out, thinking the sprayer didn't work. Be patient and allow plenty of time for the flow to start. If nothing happens after 30 seconds or so, you'll probably need to thin the paint some more. And whenever you let go of the trigger, the paint retreats back into the cup, so you'll have to allow for this start-up time after any significant pause in your work.

Now that I know how to work with this sprayer, I'm very happy with it.

I recently purchased this item with primarily one purpose in mind: I wanted to stain lattice panels under a deck with a latex stain. The thinning chart in the documentation specified usage with only 6 types of finishes. Instructions were not furnished for latex paints and stains. As one reviewer pointed out, they do specify later that warm, soapy water should be used to clean latex materials. And since water based materials are thinner than oil based, I decided to take a chance and use the stain as delivered. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The spray was even and predictable and there was no spattering, even as the stain was running out. It definitely made the job easier for me....painting lattice panels with a brush or roller can be a monster! Since the spray pattern was only about 1 inch or so, I wouldn't dream of using this machine to cover a deck or other large object. And this product isn't advertised for this purpose. I do agree with Wagner that it would be good for deck railings. For the job I required with the material I used, I found it to be quite suitable. But I must admit I haven't tried to use oil based enamel with it, however. If I ever choose to do so, I would hope it would work ok if I used the viscosity test as specified. I generally use water-based materials anyway. Cleanup was no fun (it never is). But I found it to be quite manageable. I simply removed the parts specified and soaked them in a warm, soapy water solution as directed. Have you tried to clean a roller and a paint brush lately? If you want to read real horror stories, read reviews of other power paint sprayers (including Wagner) on the Internet. They are almost impossible to clean, require frequent maintenance and are very noisy and heavy. They also are much more expensive. Noise was not a problem with this unit and it weighed slightly more than 3 pounds.

In conclusion, I found this unit to be quite adequate if it is used for purposes for which it was designed. It was not designed as a heavy duty unit and should not be used as such. Bye the way, you might want to Google search for the best price.

What a waste of time! I saw Wagner's infomercial and the sprayer looked like just what I wanted. I have a screen porch, some eaves and some furniture to paint. I purchased the sprayer and got ready to start painting and guess what. You can't use latex paint with this sprayer. I called their 800 service number and was told by a service tech that it wasn't powerful enought. I don't use oil based paint only latex. The infomercial never said it wouldn't spray latex and the box doesn't say anything either. In the instructions it mention latex when talking about clean-up...even though you can't use it. I feel Wagner has been less than truthful in their ads. The certainly wasted a full day of my time.

I thinned and thinned my oil base primer until it would finally spray and using it on some bare wood new eaves, I could have put ten coats on to get good coverage...worse yet, the oil base paint was next to impossible to clean out of it without a big tank of Mineral Spirits or something. There is no possibility that I was able to clean it well enough to use any other color than the white I started out with. I bought an extra front end for it, too! Might as well have thrown the money away...no wonder you see so many Wagner sprayers in Second Hand stores!

The reviewers fall into two groups: those that could get this to work and those that never could and returned it. You will notice a difference in the personalities of the people in these groups. Who are you most like?

I brought this home, read the manual and found that while it mentioned cleanup of latex paint, it didn't mention preparing to paint with it. I called the company and they said this painter is not recommended for latex: too thick. I read the reviews that got it to work, decided I was like those folks and followed their recommendations. Here I repeat some of these and add a few of my own.

I used a mix of 3 parts paint to 1 part water, which is easily done on the calibrated paint container. Others used a slightly more dilute mixture, and latex paints may vary by manufacturer, but this worked for me. The first 15 seconds of spraying should not be on your project as it may "spit" a little. From then on smooth sailing. Need to stop for lunch, or want to come back to it tomorrow? I recommend just setting the sprayer down. Don't touch it. Most especially don't clean the tip. A little cone will form and dry, isolating the rest of the paint and keeping it liquid. When you're ready to start again, just use your thumbnail to flick off the little cone and spay. You may need to repeat this once or twice in the first 30 seconds, then everything is back to normal.

I used this sprayer to paint some trellis and a wicker chair. I got very good results. You wouldn't want to paint your house with this, or a long length of fence. For that you need a higher volume painter, but for small to moderate jobs, this sprayer provides excellent control. It has three settings, that allow you to select a horizontal band of paint, a vertical band of paint or a circular pattern. You get a lot of control without a lot of over painting. The paint goes where you point.

Clean it once at the end of the job, but really get serious about it. Don't leave any flecks of paint to get clogged in the nozzle. With four parts (3 associated with the nozzle and the uptake tube) this is really very easy. Be careful not to damage the nozzle tip, but get all the paint out. Overnight soaking can help. As can, putting dish-washing soap on the treads without washing it off. The threads tend to attract paint and the soap makes them easy to clean.

I have a 7.5 HP Emax air compressor (7.5 HP 80 Gallon 3PH Horizontal 2 Stage Stationary Air Compressor) and needed plumbing large enough to maintain high CFM flow for my sandblaster and other high flow use tools. All of my rubber hoses for this compressor are 50 foot 1/2-inch Goodyear "yellow" hoses to maintain good CFM flow. I also needed a kit that could withstand the 175 PSI made by my compressor. My industrial quick couple fittings are 1/2-inch and 3/8-inch as needed for the same reasons. This kit maintains high flow with only a 10 PSI pressure drop over 100 feet which, all combined, is just what I wanted.

The difference in this tubing kit and less expensive RapidAir kits:

First, this kit's tubing has a sandwiched metal lining for added strength others don't have this. This also helps the line hold its shape when laid out for installation and use.

Second, this kit's tubing is rated for 175 PSI others aren't rated this high.

Third, this kit's tubing uses HDPE (high-density polyethylene) with the added aluminum other kits use simple nylon tubing.

The tubing:

The 3/4-inch tubing in this kit is two layers of HDPE with about a one millimeter layer of aluminum sandwiched in between. The wall thickness is roughly 1/8-inch thick and the outer layer of the tubing appears seamless, but the aluminum is lapped, about 1/8-inch between the two layers of HDPE, to form its sandwiched tube. This causes a slight uniform ridge on the inner HDPE layer that runs the length of the tubing. This means the O-ring seals will probably need replacing if the assembled joints are ever separated and re-assembled.

HDPE is suitable for even potable product systems as it is non-toxic, releases no harmful emissions, is un-affected by most chemicals, it resists deterioration, and is completely recyclable. About the only thing it isn't good for is temperatures above 248°F or below 148°F. It has a tensile strength of 4550 PSI, but has poor UV resistance. So, it's not for outdoor or applications exposed to sunlight but it's certainly good for pressurized tubing, especially with an added aluminum barrier. It's the same plastic used in plastic milk containers only thicker, and with that aluminum barrier.

The tools required:

The kit includes a cutting tool that makes easy work of cutting the tubing even if it is cutting aluminum also. The cuts turn out nice and smooth using the tool, and surprisingly square with little effort. I lightly beveled the inner surface tubing edges to make sliding my tubing over the O-ring seals easier, and to prevent any accidental gouges to the double O-ring fittings. Beyond the supplied cutting tool you will need a 13/16-inch, 1 1/16-inch, and 1 7/16-inch end wrenches. The fittings hexes are actually metric, but these wrenches will work or any large adjustable Cresent. The hex plugs will also require a 3/8-inch hex wrench. You will also need a tool for the fasteners you supply to secure the pipe hangers and the outlets.

Miscellaneous:

A plastic tee reamer 3/4-inch, 1/2-inch, 3/8-inch is also included. I'm at a loss for why a reamer tee was included, since I have no use it other than the end that bevels the 3/4-inch tubing. It's the only part that looks cheap other than the provided plastic snap-on tubing hangers, but it works. But, it and the hangers do look sturdy and there are enough of the hangers to securely mount the 100 feet of tubing.

Fittings:

The two 3/4-inch tubing connection tees, the 3/4-inch male NPT to 3/4-inch tubing fitting, three 1/2-inch male NPT to 3/4-inch tubing fittings, and the three 3/8-inch ball valves are all nickle plated brass for corrosion resistance. They also give the assembled aluminum outlets a great finished look. Three 1/2-inch NPT brass hex plugs are also provided. I used those on the back of my outlets, but the 1/2-inch rear outlets could also be used for air plumbing.

Outlets:

The three aluminum air outlets are well machined and appear to have aluminum powdercoating to help prevent corrosion on the outer surfaces. The "top" (as noted in the suggested assembly instructions), of the aluminum outlets have 1/2-inch female NPT threaded ports and on the front and rear of the outlets. The "bottom" port on the outlets is 3/8-inch female NPT for the included ball valves. I used 1/2" filter regulators with 1/2 industrial quick connects on the front ports of my outlets. The aluminum outlets are thick sturdy pieces with four 3/16-inch holes drilled for mounting them securely and I trust they will easily support the Ingersoll-Rand P244-610 1/2'' Female NPT Regulators NEW I have purchased to install on them. So far, none of the assembly has a leak at the 175 PSI my compressor provides.

Assembly tip:

Use a small drop of olive oil to lubricate O-rings and the inside of the tubing before pushing the tubing onto the fittings. The lubrication will make installation easier. The olive oil will lubricate the rubber O-rings without causing future deterioration. Try to do the assembly in warm temperatures as HDPE is a hard material.

Note:

The included instructions are of a simple layout without much concern for moisture and contaminates. Due to this, you may want additional plumbing, and to follow a plumbing diagram such as the "Sharpe air piping layout".

A coalescing filter and mechanical automatic drain some 25 feet from my compressor keeps line contamination down before the RapidAir plumbing. The compressor receiver tank also has a timed electric drain. Just looking at the quality of the assembled kit, I'll probably purchase another kit later as my garage area is 70' x 40'. I purchased my 3/4-inch RapidAir kit directly from Amazon seller Northern Tool using my Hotline subscription for a slightly better savings while the kit was offered in the Hotline flyer.

This air handling system is easy to install and works very well. Maxline offers another, lighter grade system, but I opted for the Master Kit even though I won't take it to its limits. I simply prefer to have a better grade of product, and this fills the bill! The feature that attracted me was the ease of the install. The instructions are just one page, and the rigid but easily bendable lines made install so easy. A word of caution.....plan your system, including elbows, 't's' and wall clips. I ordered a few extra parts and didn't have one of those moments during the install where I realized I needed an extra part I'd have to wait a week for or spend too much for expedited shipping. Plan your system, where junctions need to be, and where you need outlets. Then, when it all arrives, you're ready to go. I highly recommend this system. Much easier than running metal pipe and cheaper too.

the reason for the 3 stars is because when I first installed it I teflon taped every thing rite down to the bowl(where did it leak from you may ask?)directly from the pressure diaphragm(where you adjust the main pressure out)why?because some jack ass installed it upside down.if you buy this be carefull because you may need to take apart the regulator to flip the pressure diaphragm over on the correct side(the side with the spring recess)one side has no recess and the other does,but after the repair it holds pressure perfect.would only recommend if you are mechanically suficient.
