Buy LT5000D Lotos LT5000D 50A Air Inverter Plasma Cutter Dual Voltage 110/220VAC 1/2" clean Cut Now
Considering the average price of plasma cutters I took a leap of faith by purchasing one of the lower priced cutters. I was not disappointed. Ordered from the Lotus store front before it had any seller rating, and was pleasantly suprised at the prompt delivery.Pro's: Great bang for the buck.
Pretty simple to operate==>watch online video.
Good cord lengths.
Just plain cool to operate.
Con's
As fore mentioned, the lack of plug should have been better noted.
The user manual is severly lacking as far as cutting and reccomended voltages.
The manual tells you on one page to touch metal with tip and then two pages later it says to maintian a 1mm distance?
Tip's
Cleaning your work is really important the + & must have good contact. The current spikes generated by the increased impedance of bad contacts is a good way blow 15amp power strips.
Start Thin and work your way up.
Wear The Right Clothing! molten metal spraying out at 66psi can cause early male splattered baldness.
It does say operators should be certified to operate the equipment, wonder if that means something.Ok, I bought this because I like to tinker and do a little hobby welding. It came fast as usual from Amazon, pretty easy to hook up, you will need to buy the plug for which ever you decide to run, I used 220volt. Made a few practice cuts and worked like a charm, cut right through 3/16" steel plate and made quick work of the 1/8" diamond plate I was testing it on. I didn't get back to it for a while and got started on a project, made a few cuts then it just quit working...not sure what happened but it happens, I checked online and found that I was past the return time for amazon, I sent some e-mails and was quickly contacted by Lotos. They sent a link to some videos and trouble shooting tips, unfortunately that didn't fix it. Lotos told me to send it back and they would replace it, in fact they had shipped it out to me as soon as I put it in the box, they didn't even wait for it to arrive at there facility, just sent the new one. For the price you can't beat it, and when the company backs there product like that what could you possibly have to lose?I ordered this for my husband for his birthday. His intended purpose was to do automotive restoration projects as well as some art projects. We were a bit concerned with ordering because of the low price relative to similar looking machines from various other merchants. When the order arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. It was packaged well and the instructions were straightforward and clear. The visible aspects of the case and controls appear well made.
The machine comes without a plug and you can wire it for 110 or 220. His shop didn't have 220 wired so he put on a 110 plug. It worked quite well for light duty work on aluminum and sheet steel. When he moved on to some heavier gauge (3/16 and 1/4 inch mild steel) the shop 110 fuse would blow at the required power settings. He then wired the shop panel for a 220 outlet and put the appropriate plug on the cutter. It then worked perfectly for the heavy gauge projects. If you are intending to do light duty work, 110 is convenient... if you want to cut heavier material, go for 220.
I recommend this machine to anyone wishing to get started in plasma cutting. The duty cycle for cutting is certainly plenty for any projects we have in mind. His last project was to restore his late grandfathers large welding table that had been cut in half to make two smaller ones. We are quite happy with this purchase!
p.s. my husband helped with the details of this review :-)What a GREAT machine. Since purchasing my Lotos LT5000D plasma cutter earlier this Spring, I have been using it extensively to cut the sheet steel for lawn art, cut the rebar for window well grates, and the demolition of various steel structures. It has worked flawlessly and with consistently good results. The unit is very easy to set up and operate. After connecting the air pressure regulator to the back of the unit and the power plug to the input wires the unit is ready to go. Simply supply compressed air at 70 psi (the unit requires about 3-4 cfm at 70 psi), the work grounding wire, and the plasma torch and you're ready to start cutting. The torch cable is about 10 feet long so there is no problem being able to move around the work area. I have found that the unit works much better on 220V but I have used it on a 30A 110v circuit with good results on 12 gauge steel. For anything thicker than that one should connect the cutter to a 220v circuit.
Cutting 12 gauge steel (about 0.1 inches thick) requires a torch current of 30 amps for which the unit has a 100% duty cycle so one can cut continuously. To cut 1/2 inch material requires 50 amps but the cut is still fairly clean. I have used the unit to cut 3/4 inch steel, but that is the upper limit of what this unit can do (Lotos states an upper limit of 1/2 inch so I was pushing the unit to do the 3/4 inch thick steel). I have used it to cut 1 inch rebar by doing a partial cut, rotating the rebar and continuing the cut.
Most of my work is with mild steel but I have used the plasma cutter to cut aluminum, stainless steel, and copper. The stainless steel cuts like mild steel (maybe even better due to its lower thermal conductivity) whereas the aluminum and copper are harder to cut. I have not experimented with various thicknesses of aluminum but I would guess the upper thickness limit is about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch.
The unit is very portable and can be easily transported to other locations provided that an air supply is also available as well as a sufficient electrical service.
I have recommended this unit to other who have purchased it and are equally pleased with its performance.
A very nice plasma cutter.
