Legacy L8306 3/8-Inch x 75 Retractable Air Hose Reel

Legacy L8306 3/8-Inch x 75 Retractable Air Hose Reel
  • Levelwind layering mechanism ensures the hose retracts evenly and easily
  • 3/4-inch ID swivel reduces flow restrictions and improves performance
  • User can select "Free Run" for fast rewind or "Latching" to latch the hose
  • Mounting bracket allows the user to secure the reel in 1 of 7 positions
  • Includes hose

This Legacy L8306 3/8" x 75' Retractable Air Hose Reel is very nice, I am just a guy who likes neet work areas such as my garage and basement, I have a 50' retractable air hose reel from another manufacturer and it is not nearly as nice, I really like the way it retracts the line and reels the hose back and forth so it doesn't get tangled internally, in my garage I had my old unit hard plummed but had to add another piece of galvanized pipe to make up for the short 3' lead, if you can swing it opt for the 75 ft. and not the 50 ft. the extra 25 ft. makes a difference I no longer have to run a second line

This review was precipitated not so much by the quality of the L8306 Legacy air hose reel, as it was by the Legacy's customer service actions. Upon opening my new Legacy L8306 reel, it quickly became apparent that the 3' lead-in hose was woefully short. While I can envision some utilizing a 3' lead-in hose, it would likely only be those with vertical air compressors mounting their Legacy reel in VERY CLOSE proximity to the compressor...and in direct line so as not to have any acute hose bends. The vast majority of reel users either would have to have hard-wired air systems, or simply use a 25' or 50' air hose to bridge the lineal space gap between compressor and reel mounting position. I fell into the latter category.

I had many 50' reels of air hose lying around, and could have used one of these hoses to bridge the compressor / reel gap...but the more I got to thinking about it, the more irritated I became. After all, this hose reel is not cheap in price...adding an extra 7' of air hose would surely add very little real cost to Legacy. After years of running a large manufacturing firm, I logically assumed some CFO or other financial wizard concluded that reducing the lead-in hose from 10' to 3' would add 0.0000001% to Legacy's bottom line. No doubt that financial gain was real...but at what intangible cost to Legacy as a company? Remaining PO'd, I stopped my installation and found Legacy on line, and dropped them an email stating that a company's financial gain can be dramatically offset via longer term customer dissatisfaction. To my pleasant surprise, I quickly received a polite email response from Legacy, stating "We take a lot of pride in our products and always aim to please. The length that we provide is based on what is most often recommend by our distributors and customers. Many people place their reels very near to the source and therefore only need a few feet of hose for their lead in. We also are aware that there can be a need for longer lead-in hoses depending on the layout of the shop. Because we recognize that there is still a demand for this, we do offer various sizes of lead-in hoses. I am having a 10' lead in hose sent to the address that you provided below. I hope that you will continue to purchase Legacy products. Have a great weekend!" I received my free 10' lead-in hose in short order.

While I still do not agree with Legacy's customer rep statement that "The length that we provide is based on what is most often recommend by our distributors and customers..." reflects most users' needs, I remain duly impressed with Legacy's customer service business acumen. I also add that NO WHERE on line could I find longer Legacy (or other manufacturer's brands)lead-in hoses, as Legacy lead-in hoses require a male end fitting for their specific units. If I could have found a longer lead-in hose, I would have simply purchased it...I would still be burned up...but would not have been irate enough to contact Legacy.

But enough ranting...my heart soars to find an industry that is attentive to customers. Yes, the reel seems OK...lots of plastic, but functionally all there. And yes, I'm confident that some Legacy bean counter still sticks to his/her guns about "desirable" lead-in hose lengths. Perhaps if enough customers voiced their opinions, the noted Legacy bean counter would be chastised as those involved in actual Legacy operations and sales applauded.

I've not used this much yet and this is the first retractable reel I have ever owned. It works pretty well except at times there is a certain point in the retracting process that it is slow in reeling the hose up. It just may need for the spring tension to be adjusted. I'll revisit this review after I do that.

I've used this now for 3+ months and I really like it. The only negative I've found is on cold days (Below 40) it is slow rolling the hose back in which I contribute to the hose being too stiff. A more supple hose would make this much better!

So Far this Retractable Air Hose Reel is much better than the old retractable hose reel I replaced. I particularly like the feature that the hose is evenly distributed around the drum as it retracts. I also like the way the hose reel catches when you are reeling it out to use. All you have to do is pull out how much hose you want and listen for it to click and then stop. You have the correct amount of hose to use. It is also a sturdy unit and I am very happy with it. The price from Amazon.com was less than any other marketer I could find. I highly recommend other people purchase this product.
