General Tools 1216 12-Inch Flex Stainless Steel Rule

• 12" industrial quality steel rule
• Precision made with etched fine black graduations for easy reading and long life
• Graduations on reverse are in 32nds, 64ths
• Width of rule is 15/32"

This rule is generally of fine quality, the markings are etched and in a nice contrasting black so it's easy to read and the markings are not likely to wear off.

It's got graduations in 8ths, 16ths, 32nds and nicely 64ths for those who can see that small.

This ruler is indeed very flexible which is handy for measuring curved surfaces.

The biggest flaw however, is it did not live up to its claim of being a precision rule. The starting end of the ruler is visibly ground or cut 0.5mm too short rendering measuring from the ends useless!

I originally bought 2 of them but both had the same flaw, so it's not a fluke.

Pass on this ruler for precision unless you can work around this or can tolerate the lack of quality.

The rule is off on one end so you can't use the entire rule to measure. But I usually start measuring from the 2 inch mark anyway in case I dent the edges of measuring tools. It seems to be pretty accurate apart from that. But I wouldn't recommend it if you need the entire 12 inches or for extremely accurate measuring. Other than that I love how thin it is, the different views on the scale and the etched in markings.

A full 12" ruler marked in hundredths of an inch is really handy if you are working out custom printed forms or specifications for printed labels.

This ruler is similar to one I had before, but long and marked in 10ths and 100ths instead 32nds and 64ths of an inch. That saves some calculator time.

The good: It was flexible and it is 12 inches. It has inches on one side in 32 and 64ths. The opposite side has 10 and 100ths. It's stainless steel.

The bad: The inch graduation is not as a regular rule with long inch, little shorter half inch, little shorter quarter inch lines. If that was there I would have given it a 4 star.

I am trying to learn to use the 10ths on the other side because I can see the numbers and the difference in the line marks are not that important. It does work good for a thin gauge to see if my saw blade is lowered into the table top grove. My old eyes can't see the markings to good. I gave it a 3 star because of my eyes otherwise I would have given it a 4 star.

I keep one of these in my shop, my truck, and in my toolbox at work. Super handy. Good straight scale. Has fraction and decimal inch markings. The flex part is great, just keep in mind you aren't going to wrap it in a circle and have it bounce back. But it will flex quite a bit.

I have owned other Campbell-Hausfeld products that worked well, but this one was the exception. There does not appear to be any warranty, and even if there was one, it would not be worth the shipping charges to send it in for repair/replacement.

I used this thing once to inflate a basketball and it immediately blew a fuse. The unit does NOT indicate how much power it needs and I assumed that the standard 10 amp fuse on the cigarette lighter should be enough. Replaced fuse and then it worked on the basketball, but then a few months later it was blowing fuses again. I went to a 15-amp fuse, which did not blow, but the compressor would chug a couple of times and then stopped. Apparently its life was over! Now it's just an ugly paperweight!

One of those "true necessities" for anyone with a vehicle with inflatable tires. If you've ever been "20 miles from nowhere" or FURTHER and have had a flat tire I hope you had one of these. It just takes a few minutes to pump up the tire, find the leak, plug it using one of those cheap little plug kits available at just about any large merchandise store, finish inflating your tire and drive away. You don't even have to take your tire off of your car. I have one for each of my vehicles.

If your looking for a motorcycle pump for travel, this is a good one. Strip it all apart. Remove the plastic casing and trash it, pull out the guts, tape the start button to the motor, add alligator clips to end of wires, and you have a compact motorcycle travel pump just in case of a flat.
