I have a Central Pneumatics 4 HP 10 gallon compressor from Harbor Freight. This is a close replacement. I involves changing the copper line to the tank but the lever action is less prone to problems as the button switch that come on the compressors. You need access to a flaring tool and less than a foot of 1/4" copper line. The actual switch must be made by the same company as it is identical. I happy with the upgrade.

I broke a fitting off in the original switch on my air compressor, so I ordered this one as a replacement. It installed easy enought and the compressor is working fine again. I am very pleased and with Summer coming with bike tires, balls, and water toys. Oh, and the tires on our vehicles might need some air too.

The switch worked fine just as I needes.

Switch works great. Time will tell how long it lasts, but it appeares to be as well made as the OEM switches on compressors from the big box stores. Having the on/off switch is nice to have. I don't have to unplug my compressor when not using.

When I purchased this compressor I was just wanting one to get me by for a while and I think this one will do. It had all of the features I was wanting. I was disappointed when the one I received has small things that were not consistent with the one in the picture. They are small details but things to consider. Mine did not have a sticker on it (I'm ok with this detail). The square tubing use for the frame was not capped off, I'm sure it will not hurt anything but looks cheap. These last two things do bother me a little, the air line running from the compressor to the tanks, does not have the cooling fins like the picture. The intake looks like metal in the picture online and in the instructions, but the one I got was flimsy plastic. I'm giving it one trip in the back of the truck.

I have not gotten a chance to get it on the job site but thinking it will do alright.

Internal parts made probably out of US. No a good quality control certification. The trigger broke the frist time I used. I do not recommended it.

I used the tool for applying knockdown texture to new and exisiting walls. The tool is well made and easy to use. For a first timer at texture I was pleasantly suprised. The instructions could be a little more explicit. I viewed a video on UTube that helped a lot and filled the gaps in the instructions. I would recommend this tool.

I bought this because reviews said it was very quiet. It performed to my highest expectations for two weeks (why I say 5 stars). Then it sprung a leak at the gauge connection and therefore will no longer retain air in tanks. I am returning today for a replacement of same item as I want to give it one more try. Amazon return seems to be painless and they are sending UPS tomorrow to pick up. Luckily I kept the box and stuck it in my attic or I would be up the creek with an silver colored aluminum anchor!! Can you say premonition?

UPDATE: UPS picked up first compressor as approved by Amazon. Second compressor arrived with a box looking like it was shipped through a war zone. No strapping tape and the bottom fell off when I picked up the box. Ran unit for 15 minutes with tank valve open to break in as specified. Then when I tried to fill tank it was quiet until twenty-five psi and then a terrible rattling inside the compressor started and remains. Probably a knock in the connecting rod. Bad unit or bad drop, who knows. Back to Amazon tomorrow. Good thing I'm retired or I wouldn't have time for all this nonsense. Down to three stars....I know I said one more time, BUT I'm hoping third time is the charm or it will be plan B: Makita.

12/8/2011. Well, I am happy with the third Steele compressor. Quiet, no leaks. It has been two 1/2 months and no more complaints. Back up to 5 stars.

I spent weeks reviewing the specs on every small air compressor I could find in-store, online and have-in-mind, before I bought this one. Weight, noise level, quality and CFM output were the comparisons. The CFMs actually listed on it are 5.2 at 40PSI and 4.2 at 90PSI. It has 55dB noise level which makes it the quietest compressor available. There's a huge difference between 55dB and 60dB because it's a logarithmic scale not linear. My concerns about not having wheels were removed because it weighs less than 50 lbs., compare that to 38 lbs for my retractable hose with reel. It arrives with only one part (air filter) to attach. This compressor is small, quiet and delivers enough CFMs to power professional pneumatic tools. It has a 1-year warranty which is the same as others. It's energy efficient using a 1.5hp. Right now, noise is a huge factor and our baby really is not awakened. In fact, no one complains when I power this up except they wish they had one too spoken in a normal speaking voice.

CON: The manual is terrible. 7 pages of generic information about hazards, risks, and instructions on how to operate all air compressors safely. One page of specific operating instructions. Two pages of diagrams for parts. However, the components mentioned in the operating instructions are not shown anywhere. There are a few mis-spellings/grammar errors but that's a very minor issue.

A couple of reviewers complained about the quality, but mine has been great so far, and was nicely packaged when it arrived.

super quiet which is why i bought it. Not the highest CFM but that is not what i was looking for. ~I use this to fill bicycle tires in my shop and run small air tools. This is way quieter than the Makita Mac2400 with the same reservoir size. The makita has higher cfm.

Yes, the motor is a lot quieter than other ones, the problem is that there is also a high pitched whine (whistle) that is so loud that you can't even hear the compressor motor working after a few feet away. Not really what I was looking for in a so-called 'quiet' compressor. Buy the other one that's available.
