Campbell Hausfeld WS0990 115-Volt Stick Welder

Campbell Hausfeld WS0990 115-Volt Stick Welder
  • Great for small repairs and hobby welding
  • Runs on standard 115V power
  • Dual heat setting and thermal overload protection
  • Versatile design welds mild and stainless steel from 18 ga. To 1/8 in.
  • Durable metal welder with comfort fit handle

Naively, I purchased this product based on the price and the raving reviews it was getting. The "specifications" leave a lot to be desired. One review even says this product welds ¼" with no problem. I thought "what the heck" since it was only $106. Well let me tell you, this won't weld ¼", it won't even weld 1/8". I rated it a 3 because I did not test lighter gauge metals since that is not my need. It might work great on those, I just don't know. This review is basically for the misleading reviews Amazon has for this product.

being in home repair all my life i had never needed to weld until now. it was absolutely the best price i could find. it arrived a day before they said it would, ready to use right out of the box. it is simple to operate and pretty foolproof. i taught myself to use it in 5 minutes from the included instructions and have used it on many jobs since then including a few art projects just for fun. the ONLY problem was the mask is handheld. i only have two hands.

I bought this little welder to put together a set of custom built pedals for a home made racing cockpit. It did the job of tacking my pieces together!

I didn't have expectations that this was going to be the most awesome welder I ever owned. I didn't plan to build giant robots and take over the world. I did however expect that it would be able to make an arc. It failed to do that.

When you flip the power switch you can hear it "Clunk" letting you know there is some juice, but there is no "on" light so if you wander off and leave it no one will know.

Clamp the lead to my piece of thin steel tubing, touch the stick to the joint. Nothing. Sand the spot where I am clamping too. Reclamp. Nothing.

Maybe my steel is not conductive enough. Grab some sheet steel clamp to that, just touch the stick to it to see that I get a spark. Nothing.

Swap sticks. Nothing.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It sucks. It is Sunday so I don't know if i can return it. That won't change my rating but will make me less annoyed.

First the included stick are not for a new to welding person. I knew that so i was prepared, Find some E6013 rods and this welder just works. i found 1/16 worked great on low. and high was a waste. No popped breakers on low or high, i have 20 amp circuits.
