Bostitch PN100 Impact Nailer

Operation:

This tool will drive virtually any bulk nail, the kind sold by the pound. The smallest nail Bostitch recommends is a 5d (d=penny, a term that refers to nail size). Bostitch claims the maximum size is 75d, but the head on those huge nails won't fit in any of the nose-pieces that Bostitch offers. However, I've used it on 6d to 20d nails with great success.

Insert the nail into the PN100's "nose", where a built-in magnet holds it. Hold the nailer with either hand, press the point of the nail into the material; when the tool senses the pressure, a fast-acting piston cycles the hammer which drives the nail. It sounds like a Tommy Gun. You can drive a 20d nail in about one second, depending on wood hardness. You can also start the nail with a hammer then put the PN100 on that nail, or, hold the nail with your fingers (risky), or hold the nail with another tool (e.g., pliers).

The tool is sold by itself with the standard nose only, or in kit form. The kit includes a wrench to change from the standard nose to the included finishing nail nose or an oversized nose for nails with large heads, spare O rings, a spare magnet, oil, a leather tool cover (improves grip and comfort), and a custom case to protect the tool and accessories.

Pros:

Particularly useful in confined spaces, such as between joists, hard to reach nails, odd angles, overhead, etc. You only need space for the tool and nail, plus room for your hand on the tool. Except for a small pin nailer, most nail guns take more space to operate than this palm nailer. Swinging a hammer takes even more space.

For applications such as installing lots of joist hangers, this tool is ideal. If you're building a deck for example, this tool could "pay" for itself on that one job.

The tool is not heavy and it is comfortable to hold in your hand, especially with the leather cover attached (which comes with the kit).

Works on things other than driving new nails. E.g., to drive in the built-in spike on joist hangers, nail heads that aren't in all the way, pointed ends of nails that are poking out in the wrong place, etc.

Substantially quicker and easier than swinging a hammer, improving productivity. Drives large nails flush in less than a second, in a machine-gun burst of energy. Depending on the job, nailing could be four or five times faster than with a hammer.

This tool shines when nailing into engineered lumber (e.g., laminated beams) or lumber in old houses, which is frequently denser than new construction lumber. The first few times I used the PN100, WOW was the word that came to mind.

For us older guys, swinging a hammer for hours one end is murder on your muscles. With the PN100, your hand might tingle after extensive use, but that's about it.

Tool appears to be excellent quality, but it will be years before I could attest to longevity.

Simple to operate. There are no buttons or switches. There is no depth control either; when the nail is flush, it stops banging.

Should be safer than a nail gun that is connected to an air hose, since YOU insert the nails one at a time; i.e., there is no supply of nails in the gun to have an accident with. In any case, it's probably best to not leave a nail in an unattended gun with an air hose connected.

Can change nail size/type immediately, since there is no magazine; e.g., any nail with a head up to .42" (+/-) will fit in the standard nose.

The standard nose seems to fit most bulk nails.

Cons:

This tool is VERY loud, especially in a confined space. Wear hearing protection, even if driving only one nail.

Of course, you will need an air compressor, as for any air nailer. Any size tank compressor should work. I mostly use a 3/4 HP Thomas portable air compressor with an operating air pressure between 100 and 125 psi. When driving lots of large nails, I frequently have to wait for that small compressor to catch up. With a larger compressor, waiting would be less of an issue.

Other:

This tool is most practical for projects where "hammer" dimples won't be an issue; i.e., rough work such as house framing. It can be used for interior work, as long as you can deal with hammer dents, sometimes several dents per nail. (Dents are 3/16" in diameter, the size of the PN100 "hammer".) One way to avoid the dents is to pull back on the tool before the nail is driven home. You need lightning fast reflexes to do this, as the PN100 drives a nail very quickly. Personally, I use finish nailers or other methods whenever dents would be a problem.

For professionals or anyone that drives thousands of nails, this tool will not replace speciality nail guns. Roofing nailers, pin nailers, framing nailers, trim nailers, etc., are still best for their intended application, most of the time.

Some nails will bend, but not nearly as often as with a hammer, in my experience. Bends occur most often on smaller nails in hard wood, or if the tool isn't straight-on with the nail.

Good value on Amazon, as our local Home Depot charges $80 for the non-kit version.

Before using, you need to install a 1/4" quick disconnect fitting and lightly oil the tool. The only maintenance is an occasional oiling.

If you jar the tool, the hammer could stop in mid-stroke, making the tool inoperable. All you have to do is whack the back of the tool with the palm of your hand to un-stick it. My PN100 was stuck when I first tried to use it, but hasn't stuck since.

The fitting that holds the nose on my tool was so tight, I had to put the tool in a wood vise and use a very large Crescent wrench to loosen it the first time.

Anyone planning a large construction project (new house, renovation, addition, deck, etc.) should consider buying this tool.

I recently retired and have undertaken a project to build a woodworking shop-garage. Swinging a hammer has become a very tiresome chore, and I was considering the purchase of a framing nailer. Upon reviewing information from various manufacturers, I realized that a framing nailer is a very specialized tool.

However, I happened to run across information about palm nailers. In reviewing the information provided by Amazon, I read that a palm nailer can be used for nailing any size nail and in many different applications. I could see where this would be a more useful tool than a framing nailer. I purchased the Bostitch PN100 kit, and immediately started using it with 16d nails in framing my new shop. I then used 10d nails in decking the roof. All I can say is this nailer is wonderful!! It drives nails quickly, at any angle, and in a limited amount of space. You do have to be careful to make sure that the alignment of the nail with the nailer is correct; if not, bent nails will result. However, with just a little practice, nailing becomes an effortless operation. I would recommend this as a general purpose nailer to anyone. I might also add that I own a brad nailer and a roofing nailer made by Porter Cable, and a 1/4 inch crown stapler, and the Bostitch nailer works as well as any of them.

I have just begun a 2000 sq. ft. addition on my home. This nailer is the perfect tool for nailing all the joist hangers. I have a lot of engineered lumber in my design and trying to drive a nail by hand into a microlam beam is very difficult. I have framing nailers but they are too big to get in between the rafters at times.

The tool has a good feel and weight. Very comfortable. I drove over 200 nails the first day I used it and it never malfuctioned once. The glove keeps the tool where it needs to be and there is very limited recoil so it doesn't bother your hand at all.

I would recomend this nailer to anyone who does even the smallest amount of construction or home inprovement. In fact I have a second one on order for a Christmas gift for my 68 year old father who fell in love with it the first time he used it.

After pondering a framing nailer for a while, I decided to try this palm nailer out. I can't say enough good things about it. I just started my deck and this tool quickly worked its way up to the most important. I've been driving 10D 3" nails for 4 hours and my arm is still feeling great. The nice thing about it is that you can drive very precise nails. The control is good such that you can start a nail without driving it all of the way in. This is really helpful for the rafter ties and joist hangers. Also, there is minimal recoil, so its not tiresome after driving many nails. Using standard nails also saves a lot of time and money over framing nailers that use stick nails. The air consumption is minimal, I have a 6-gallon 2-hp compressor and the compressor kicks on every 5 minutes or so. My only advice besides buy one if you're thinking about it is to get a swivel air hose connection. It does not come with a quick connector fitting and adding one with a swivel allows you to get in corners without much trouble. The only problem is with the quick connect, it no longer fits in the carrying case.

I have only Bostitch nail guns and am satisfied (maybe even impressed) with their performance, especially compared to some other brands I have briefly used. The PN100 is no different: a solidly made product that performs. However, depending on your application you may or may not be always satisfied with its performance. I bought it because I needed to assemble high-end cedar fencing but the cost of the normal Bostitch coil gun that drives 2 1/2" stainless 8d nails was expensive (~$300) and I didn't think that I would use it on a regular basis (it is really only intended for siding and fences).

For rough nailing the PN100 works fine but for nailing in an area that will be later visible, the unit tends to leave impact marks (At 90psi, ~5/8" circle outside the nail head on the work) that are undesirable. Also, since there is not a control mechanism to guide full head nails (fence, siding, framing) it is easy to end up driving the nail crooked (it comes with one for finish nails though) or even bend the nail. I also experienced some "walk" where when getting close to the work, the pneumatic driver would occasionally walk off the head and actually strike the work leaving a 3/16" punch mark.

All in all this is a great unit but if you want consistent results on larger jobs or you want to do semi-finish work, invest in a collated Bostitch nail gun. For driving singulated nails, etc., where you can accept some marking, non-perpendicular drives or where the job is small enough that it doesn't justify the investment in a full nail gun (~$90 for PN100, ~$150 to $350 for a collated gun depending on the application) this is the perfect gun.

I'll be keeping mine and using it for many years but I also won't be discarding my other nailers. A great low-cost buy for odds-n-ends or speciality work where singulated nails are the status quo. The PN100 will put your normal 20oz hammer in a garage sale.

I hired an HVAC guy to come over and inspect the condenser and evap coils. He said I needed a hard start kit, he hooked it up and it did start easier and was quieter however it would have cost me 250.00 and I said take it off. So I purchased one from here and hooked it up myself following the easy directions. Be advised you must take other precautions when installing this product. I had to drill my own holes as the existing ones wouldn't work. It works great. I am not an HVAC person, but I have a very good knowledge of power and how to discharge it properly.

Loud Buzzing on the feeder lines going to my outside A/C Unit on a split system during start up prompted this purchase. After connection, no more buzzing. Very Happy. Worked as advertised.

This worked as needed and got another season out of my dying condenser unit. My compressor was on it's last leg and it needed a little extra boost to get started. It got us through the season. With the addition of this, I had no more problems and the air ran great. I can't say how long the compressor would have lasted since I replaced it prior to failing completely.

Hopefully I never need to buy another one of these, but if I do, I'd do this again.

I recently purchased a Ingersoll Rand air compressor 19CFM at 90PSI I needed a filter. I found this one it was the right price for my budget and so far has done every thing I have asked it to do, it removes the water for my sand blaster and it works as they advertized so far great product the only thing was had to get a cupping to adapt the hose no big deal, for the first time I got tired of sandblasting before I ran out of air and my nozzle never clogged due to moisture! The only thing I would do is purchase a spare \ replacement filter just to have.

I purchased this set for the tapered inflation nozzle. It fits nicely into a pilates ball. The nozzle and the basketball needle are the same size. You should note that, when using this with a standard bicycle pump, you have to push down the lever on the pump to lock them into place. It looks as though these pieces screw in, but they do not on my pump. I have tried to measure these as accurately as possible and will list them in order that they appear in the picture.

ETQ IN3500I 3,500 Watt 149.5cc 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator

ETQ IN3500I 3,500 Watt 149.5cc 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter GeneratorI purchased this generator in February 2010. I tried to use it six times during the summer for a small air conditioner. It lost it's ignition spark and will not start. I took it to a factory authorized repair shop and they found the manufacturer does not have replacement parts for it. I am out $849.99, with a generator that cannot be repaired and would not recomend anyone purchase this generator. I am very disappointed Amazon has it for sale under these circumstances.

The ETQ invertor/generator that we purchased works very well. It took a few pulls of the starter for the initial startup, but subsequent startups are quick and easy. It has good reserve wattage for most applications that we use it for. It will run a 10,000btu combination portable A/C-Heater and start a 2hp small air compressor and run it. It is slightly more noisy than the 2KW Honda, but it is 1KW more output and one third the price. It is a good product for now, we just have to wait and see how long it lasts.

Buy ETQ IN3500I 3,500 Watt 149.5cc 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator Now

Can't beat the price but you can definitely hear the difference btwn this product and high dollar high quality products. The Amazon ad says 60db noise level but when it arrived, the product specs say 60-65db. Remember each 3db DOUBLES the noise level! Heavy but the smooth handle and case make it not to difficult to lug around a short distance. Took many pulls to get it started the first time and it died the first time I started the camper 13500BTU A/C unit but the gen was in ECO mode (auto throttle mode). After that I run it in normal mode when I want to run the A/C. The RPMs oscillate in ECO mode under minimal load which does not inspire confidence in quality. Wondering how many seasons I'll get out of it.

Update: 2 years later and it still works. I've mistreated it by leaving gas in it for long periods of time. I just pop the carb off, disassemble it, and do a thorough cleaning and she fires right back up again. some of the plastic covers tend to pop off occasionally when I'm moving it around but that doesn't effect the performance. I've upgraded my rating to 4 stars because of the reliability.

I bought this unit to run my 15000 BTU AC in my travel trailer. Got the unit in and was very excited to give it a try. I was soon disapointed to find out that it would not start the AC. I had been told that a 3000 watt gen would do this but this unit would not no matter what I tried. I then got a friend to bring his 2800 watt unit of a different brand. It would start the AC just fine. I ended up buying a Yamaha 3000 watt which does the job great. I wish this little unit would have worked because it is half the weight of the yamaha. It is still a good little gen but just doesnt have the umph to start bigger items. It is also not load but it is a little noisy compared to the Yamaha.

EASTERN TOOL GENERATOR MODEL IN-3500I

I WAS IMMEDIATELY ATTRACTED TO THIS GENERATOR FOR ITS COMPACT SIZE, LOW NOISE ATTRIBUTES AND PRICE TAG. IT MIMICKS THE YAMAHA GENERATORS IN COLOR AND I'M CERTAIN, BY NO COINCIDENCE. I RECEIVED THIS ITEM QUITE QUICKLY FROM AMAZON AS IT IS A RATHER LARGE AND HEAVY PACKAGE. I READ THE ENTIRE MANUAL BEFORE ADDING GAS OR OIL AND BECAME VERY FAMILIAR WITH ITS RUNNING PROCESS.

AFTER ADDING GAS AND OIL I SPENT OVER 1 HOUR TRYING TO GET THIS GENERATOR RUNNING. IT WOULD START FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS AND THEN JUST QUIT. IT WAS AS THOUGH THE UNIT WAS GETTING TOO MUCH GAS OR NOT ENOUGH. I TRIED EVERY COMBINATION WITH THE CHOKE LEVER, FUEL COCK POSITIONS AND SO ON, WITH NO LUCK. IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO START THIS GENERATOR I ALSO NOTICED IN ITS POOR DESIGN THAT THE PULL STARTER RUBBED A 1" BURN INTO THE PLASTIC. THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE DESIGN IS SUCH THAT YOU PULL THE STARTER CORD UPWARDS FROM A LATERAL POSITION ON THE UNIT AND THE STRING ALWAYS RUBS THE PLASTIC. AFTER ENOUGH FRICTION IT BURNS A RATHER LARGE LINE INTO THE PLASTIC. THE REMEDY FOR THIS WOULD BE TO START THIS DEVICE ON A TABLE OR DEVICE THAT PUTS THE GENERATOR AT LEVEL WITH YOUR ARM WHICH IS JUST PLAIN RIDICULOUS UNLESS YOUR RUNNING IT IN THE BED OF A TRUCK. THE STARTER CORD SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLACED SO THAT YOU PULL UPWARDS.

BY BIGGEST COMPLAINT HOWEVER HAS BEEN THE LACK OF ANY KIND OF RESPONSE FROM EASTERN TOOL COMPANY WHO BUILDS THIS "ALL SIZZLE BUT NO STEAK" GENERATOR AFTER SENDING 2 EMAILS CONCERNING THE STARTING PROBLEM. I DONT CARE SO MUCH THAT THIS UNIT HAS A RUNNING PROBLEM AS MUCH AS I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT I HAVEN'T HEARD ANY RESPONSE FROM THE COMPANY WHO BUILT IT. I WILL TRY AGAIN ONE MORE TIME TO CONTACT THEM AND THEN I'LL JUST TAKE IT TO A SMALL ENGINE REPAIR SHOP. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AND ITS OTHER PRODUCTS EITHER. MY ADVICE: SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND GET A TIME TESTED AND PROVEN PRODUCT FROM YAMAHA, HONDA OR OTHER...

Let's clarify this. A regulator maintains a constant output pressure, compensating for variations in the input pressure and/or air flow. A valve is simply a variable restrictor, which this product is.

For consistant painting results, you should use a regulator at the gun, something like this: New SPRAY GUN AIR REGULATOR w-GAUGE-Auto Car Paint-Hvlp

Senco PC0947/FP18KIT 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit

Senco PC0947/FP18KIT 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit
  • 18-gauge brad nailer and 1-gallon compressor combo kit
  • Nailer: adjustable depth of drive, rear exhaust, easy-open latch, no-mar pad, low-load-indicator
  • Compressor: 1 gallon; aluminum cylinder with steel sleeve; 20-pounds
  • Includes nailer, 1/4-inch -by-25-foot hose, safety glasses, fittings, oil, 1,200 brad nails, wrenches, and manuals
  • 1-year warranty on nailer; 90-day warranty on compressor

My wife purchased this combo package for me for my birthday this year (well, more like I bought it and thanked her for it). I have to say, I am impressed.

THE BRAD NAILER:

The gun is lightweight and small enough to get into tight spots, yet it appears to be very well built. The protective no-mar pad does not scratch prefinished moulding, and the side load magazine is convenient and easy to use. I shot about 200 2" brads while installing new 1/2" baseboards and 3/4" birch door trim in my bedroom. Every brad was countersunk to perfect depth, and I did not get a single jam. I ended up with very professional results and finished in 1/2 the time it would have taken me with the old hammer and finish nails.

THE COMPRESSOR:

The PC1010 will change the industry. For homeowners, hobby woodworkers, and customer service professionals in the cabinetry industry this is the perfect compressor. There is no need to lug around a 4 or 6 gallon compressor for a little brad nailer. You can easily carry the nailer, hose, and bread box sized compressor in one hand. From startup, this quiet, lightweight little workhorse takes about 2 minutes to pump up to 110 psi. I consistently got 10 shots before kick in, then another 40 seconds or so to recover. I nailed right through the recovery time, and never had to wait for the compressor to before driving any brads.

SHORTFALLS:

It is very difficult for me to find anything that I don't like about this one. However, rumor has it that Senco guns work best with Senco brads, and the local home improvement stores sell mostly PC and Bostich... so I will need to find another source. I would not recommend the PC1010 for anyone who wants to drive anything larger than 18ga brads, or run multiple air tools from a single compressor. Also the compressor is so new that Senco has very limited literature on it, but I would be willing to bet they will get this taken care of soon.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Some of the best customer service I have had the pleasure to work with. If you purchased from an authorized dealer, and you have any problems with your equipment, I recommend calling Senco directly.

Buy Senco PC0947/FP18KIT 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit Now

I got this package for very light duty use woodworking shop projects and qtr-round molding on flooring. The nailer is a quality tool that sells for $120 everywhere so that makes the compressor only $75. I had a $15 coupon so the compressor was only $60 for me.

The compressor is so light that it is no problem carrying it. The tank pressure is 125 lbs and I set the tank outlet pressure to 90 lbs. It shoots about 10 brads before it cycles but you can keep shooting as it runs. I used 5/8" brads on molding on a shop project and 2" brads on floor qtr-round without a single problem. This sure saves time and doesn't mar the wood. It is pretty quiet and also looks good. Getting to small jobs and using this little tool is a pleasure. I will get an air blower tip for it; so far I'm satisfied.

I agree with the other reviewers who have given praise to this product. I felt the same way till mine broke after less than a months use.

Of course it was the compressor which broke, the part with the 90 day warranty. I did not catch that when I bought this.

Senco is a good company, but I think this little compressor is not quite up to the quality of their other products.

In my case it was the 1/4" copper tubing which brings the air to the tank that failed. It split where the tubing had been bent.

I have fixed it with some liquid steel, since I'm on a job with it, I'm hoping the repair lasts till I have time to replace to tubing.

I have used this to build two large bookcase and cabinet projects so far, and in doing so I have learned the compressors limitations. It does not do well

shooting two inch nails into MDF. It does not have the power to fully sink the nail into the material. I bought this combo for the light weight

of the compressor, so I guess there must be some compromises. This won't take the place of more powerful compressors,

but it is great for carrying to and from a job. I just hope I do not have problems with it in the future. I'm not sure I would

recommend this product, the 90 day warranty on the compressor is a big negative. especially since it seems to have some problems.

Want Senco PC0947/FP18KIT 18-Gauge Brad Nailer Compressor Combo Kit Discount?

I upgraded to this from a cheap little electric brad nailer that could not sink a 1" brad. This tool is light and has plenty of power. The compressor is small & quiet and has absolutely no problem keeping up with the nailer. I own an old 5 horse 220 v compressor but wanted something to use inside the house without running hundreds of feet of hose from the garage. This will fill my needs perfectly.

P.S. I shop online alot and would like to say that Amazon.com has the best customer service of any company I have dealt with.

I own several portable compressors, but hate to lug them around. So, I bought this one for installations of wood mantels and little odd and ends work (like attaching a piece of trim after the rest of the job is already done). The little compressor is lightweight and perfect for small jobs like these. On bigger jobs I still use one of my heavy duty compressors. So, that may be the problem some of the other reviewers are having. It's just not built for heavy duty work.

The gun on the other had was a disappointment. I already had a Senco XP 25 and prefer it. Still, it's a pretty good price for both pieces, so, no real complaints here. I've just set the newer one aside, for now.

Regarding the cheap 1/4 inch hose... pleeeease. Anyone with half a brain knows it's a cheap piece of krap, but will work fine for the occasional hobbiest. If you want a good hose, buy one.

AIR SAND BLASTER KIT - AIR TOOLS

AIR SAND BLASTER KIT - AIR TOOLS
  • Comes with three 1/4" Nozzles
  • 13/64" Air Jet
  • Key wrench
  • 10 ft. hose & pick-up tool

I purchased this to sandblast some rust off of my cast iron tub and the tub feet. I first tried it on the feet, since they are small. First of all, this comes with virtually no instructions. There are some instructions on the back which tell you about changing the nozzle, but nothing about actual use. It comes with 4 nozzles, but I could not figure out what the difference is between the nozzles, other than two are silver and two are brass. I am sure it is actually two sets of nozzles and backups, but nowhere does it tell you the difference. One would think it would be the nozzle sizes, but they looked exactly the same, including the output hole.

I figured out what must be the only way to use this product attach your air compressor to the gun, and run the black tubing to the inlet valve on the bottom of the gun barrel. Then, attach the other end of the hose to the metal pipe, and stick the pipe into your sand. When you squeeze the trigger, the valve on the gun barrel should siphon out sand into the barrel, where the air output causes the sanblast effect. Seems simple, but just plain doesn't work. The hose would not siphon any sand. It would trickle about 1/3 of the way up and then stop. I was able to get sand to come out by putting my bucket of sand on top of a ladder, and holding the gun below it and upside down, to use gravity to pull the sand into the gun, but even then, the effort was hardly worth the meager output.

I have a professional DeWalt 300 PSI 5 gallon air compressor, and I turned the regulated pressure all the way up to 250, so that should be more than sufficient, but there was not enough suction to pull up the sand. Air leaks out of the gun through the handle. Also, once I was able to get it working, the gun would lose pressure from my compressor after about 7-8 seconds. So then I would have to sit and wait for the compressor to fill up again (again, I have a large 5 gallon tank).

This is one of the worst products I have ever bought, simply because it did not work at all and was completely useless to me.

EDIT 10/9/09 According to a commenter, you may need to adjust the plastic tubing to suck up air in addition to the sand to get this to work correctly. I'll stick with the 1 star review for now, since it should have come with better instructions if that is the case.

Buy AIR SAND BLASTER KIT - AIR TOOLS Now

The picture clearly shows a blaster handle with four ceramic nozzles.

What arrived had four steel nozzles, which are inferior they wear out quickly and cost less than ceramic. That's pretty deceptive.

I bought this primarily to get the nozzle holder this entire kit cost less than buying just the one piece, so I gave it two stars instead of one because that piece was fine.

Also, the black hose in the kit absolutely reeks of mothballs(?). I opened the box and then had to get it out of the house. It sounds weird but you really couldn't store this in the basement.

In any case, if the seller is shipping metal in place of steel you can do better on the price, so look elsewhere.

There were no instructions with the kit and no way of getting the information.

The Kit requires almost double the pressure that was listed in sales.

I would suggest this unit be used by hobby people for a part time use. Thanks Kay

  • Applications are endless.... Air Compressors, HVAC, Stereo Equipment, Treadmills etc etc
  • Designed for Indoor & outdoor applications

I live in an apartment building with really old air conditioning units on the roof that make a lot of vibration noise and during the summer with everyone running their air, all that mechanical noise on my roof was getting irritating. I decided to buy some of these pads and go up on the roof and install them. It did a pretty good job of reducing the noise dramatically. It didn't completely eliminate it, but it's now at least tolerable. Only problem I notice is that they can start to compress and their effectiveness can diminish at that point. So I'd actually double them up and stack two on top of each other for maximum effectiveness.

As another reviewer said, they do have quite a strong chemical smell to them when you first get them, but I have a few laying around I didn't use and I just went to smell it and the smell isn't there anymore. So I wouldn't worry about it, it dissipates. Of course non of this was a problem for me anyway since I used them outdoors.

Can't tell if the anti-vibration feature works in my application since I installed it at initial installation As several have mentioned the smell is very strong and un-pleasurable. My wife asked me to put the invoice that came in the package in the garage; it was permeated with the smell also. The good news is the smell eventually dissipated took about a month. This would be unbearable if installed in the house for the first month.

I have a mini-split A/C unit for my converted garage and I poured a new concrete slab for the outdoor unit to sit. Since this fan will certainly vibrate, I placed the unit legs on these pads, then bolted it to the concrete slap. This has resulted in an extremely quite outdoor unit which was important to me since I use the garage for recording music.

I used these to install my new furnace. They work great and do not allow any noise transmission. They also keep the metal cabinet from being in contact with the concrete floor so it will prevent rust in the case of water spills.

Great for moving a very heavy (900 lb) tape drive in the back of a truck 200 miles. This is an industrial vibration mount, and probably too heavy duty for something lighter than 500 lbs. The person who put his office fan on it had the totally wrong application for this.

First of all this is no reflection on the company CPO themselves. They were most helpful in trying to resolve the problem and most profession in trying to deal with their Vendor, Campbell Hausefeld. Now not to say that the compressor is Awesome, it's that The compressor did not come with everything. There was no motor starter, heater, hookup, Or compressor oil to make the compressor useful. I had to purchase all those parts. Trying to contact the company was difficult at best, and would not return phone messages or Email. I have to give an average rating. CPO you guys are great. • Easy access to the nosepiece for the removal of jammed nails without the use of screwdrivers or tool wrenches
  • Part of the XRP DEWALT cordless system contact trip lock-off allows trigger to be disabled when not in use

Where has this puppy been all my life?!

I already had two 18v batteries so I didn't need the whole kit, so this worked out perfectly.

I bought the brads from the local hardware so I could inspect them I'm buying this to make my life easier and collecting a bunch of brads that came apart in shipping is not my idea of easier.

This thing... man I'm kicking myself for not buying it sooner. I had it in my head that this was just a novelty/nice to have item but I can do fine without it for the cost. Was I wrong. I can't express how much easier and faster this is, and leaves a much smaller hole. I've used it on trim (baseboard, casing, etc.) and even to face nail some HARD, thick flooring that I had to replace. Punches through with no problem and you don't have to worry about having room to swing a hammer, or use a countersink, splitting, etc. Hold it up, POP, done.

• Adjustable force

• Lights area when nose is pressed

• Nose has protective rubber piece so as not to mar surface

• As stated, nose piece easily pops apart to fix jams

• Decent balance to it once battery is on

• Easy to load/unload brads

• Basically what I've come to expect from DeWALT

I haven't tried the sequential firing setting yet so I can't comment on it.

What I can say is hold on to this thing, otherwise the brads won't sink properly. In fact, if the nailing surface or the nail gun are not secure when firing the nail won't penetrate properly (may be less of an issue with soft wood). Do some testing before hand to get a good feel for it and to get the depth set right, especially if you're doing something like flooring where you really want it right the first shot. I assume this is the same for any brad nailer, but this is my first so just throwin' it out there for anyone else in the same situation.

Just received my 18V-18 Gauge brad nailer and fired some test nails. What a tool! I've been using the 16 gauge finish nailer for a number of years and love it, too. When I first used the 16 Gauge gun, I called DeWalt to see if they planned an 18 gauge brad nailer and was told it was not in their plans, so I went with the Paslode gas fired gun.

The Paslode isn't a bad gun, but over the years I've had it repaired a number of times, and it's rather finicky about firing every time. It seems like it never fires the first time when you are in an awkward position holding precision pieces just so. The other issue with the Paslode is keeping fresh gas. They tell you to store in a cool place, which is impossible when your tools go with you everywhere and are continuously baked in the Florida sun.

This DeWalt brad nailer has none of those issues. It's a great tool, makes very little noise, and sets nails perfectly according to the variable depth dial. If you do finish carpentry for a living, don't leave home without it. At first look, it will seem rather large, but I can get it in any place that I used to get with my Paslode, or my old Bostitch air gun.

I use the whole line of 18V DeWalt tools (circular saw, jig saw, vacuum, impact driver, hammer drill, cutoff tool, 16G finish nailer)every day, so I invested in the Lithium Ion batteries. The Lithiums are far superior to the XRP batteries in charge time, operating time and longevity, so while I'm offering opinions, I highly recommend them as well.

With this unit, like its big brother the cordless Finish nailer, I don't have the hassle of loading up a compressor and hoses to do a small job. Production use? Not sure. If you wanted to put trim on a bookcase, shelving, etc. this is the unit. A bit bulky compared to pneumatic nailers, but hey, trade off seems worth it. Haven't gotten in to heavy or prolonged use so my review may change if I encounter problems in the future. Home craftsman? Buy it. Light maintenance/furniture refinishing? This will work nicely.

I had planned on buying a compressor and nail gun combo to do some trim work in my dining room and bedroom, and I found this Dewalt cordless nailer while doing some online research. After reading the reviews, I decided that this was what I needed. Since I already have two batteries and a charger from my Dewalt cordless drill, this seemed like a good deal. I couldn't be much happier with my purchase. I had feared that it might be too big and heavy but after using it, it's not a problem. It has plenty of power, battery life is great, it seems very well made, and I don't have to drag out a compressor and hose every time I want to put up some trim. Delivery was quick, and the price from Amazon was excellent. I'm very satisfied.

I think my title says it all.

I have owned the Dewalt nailer for 5-6 months now. I have remodeled our entire second floor including two bathrooms, 3 bedrooms all with base and crown molding and one room with chair molding, using this tool. I opt'd for the upgrade to the lithium ion batteries,(I got the drill driver/impact wrench set)and I love the longevity. I only have two batteries, but with charge times less than 1 hour per, and run times that far exceed that, I have never been without (even using the driver and nailer together).

The only down side to this tool is how silly you will feel for not buying it sooner. Seriously one if my favorite tools ever. I have owned a Bostich and Rigid nailer (corded to compressor) and I will never go back to dragging around a compessor. This tool uses NO cartidges, so you will save big $$ vs most competitors cordless CO2 models.

UPDATE 5-4-12

I have now lent my nailer to two friends, both of whom have gone out and bought one shortly after using mine. I can't say enough good things. I can't believe big box retailers don't carry this product. Congrats to Amazon for scooping up all the sales. This should be in any DIYers aresenal if quaility finishings are important to you.

DEWALT D51236K 1-1/4-Inch 18 Gauge Brad Nailer Kit

DEWALT D51236K 1-1/4-Inch 18 Gauge Brad Nailer Kit
  • Tool-free thumb wheel depth setting for quick and easy depth adjustments
  • Side low-nail indicator window allows user to quickly and easily see when it is time to re-load

  • Tool-free jam clear eliminates down-time from bent fasteners caught in the nosepiece
  • Tool-free 360 degree exhaust channels air and dust away from user;Trigger lock-off allows trigger to be disabled when not in use

I purchased this nailer because my previous one (porter cable) broke. What a difference! It doesn't jam. It is easy to adjust depth of staples, feels good and solid. DeWalt usually makes good quality stuff and this one is no different. I used it to do moldings inside my home. So far no complaints.

I used this nailer about 10 times already. It is a good product. The reason I gave this nailer only 4 stars is the nailer sometimes get stuck so to make it work again I have to pull out the tip. My next one will be a Porter Cable. My father in law has one and it works much better then my Dewalt.

I'm sure this nailer is as good as reviewed above. What disappoints me about this is that DeWalt does not include a valve stem on the nailer. I thought I was going to unbox this and be firing away. But instead, I had to make a trip to the Home Depot for a $1.89 part. They couldn't include one with the nailer? Come on, DeWalt, $1.89. Put valve stems in the package.

Stanley Bostitch CAP1516 Trim Air 8 Amp 1-1/2-Horsepower 1.6-Gallon Oil-Free CAmper-Shaped Compresso

Stanley Bostitch CAP1516 Trim Air 8 Amp 1-1/2-Horsepower 1.6-Gallon Oil-Free CAmper-Shaped Compressor
  • Highly efficient, ultra-quiet 1.5 HP compressor runs on only 8 amps
  • Compact, lightweight design for tight work spaces and easy storage
  • Oil-free pump requires no maintenance; includes internal 1.6-gallon reserve air tank
  • Requires 2.7 cfm at 40 psi and 1.8 cfm at 90 psi
  • 1-year warranty; weighs 19.5 pounds

I purchased this compressor because a small, light-weight unit appealed to me. Rather than lugging around my 50lb Emglo for smaller jobs, the thought of having a small unit made sense to me. The unit arrived intact and I immediately put it to use on a small 300 sq ft flooring job. It ran my BOSTITCH Flooring Cleat nailer at 80 psi with no problems. It is suprisingly quiet, light and easy to carry. Needless to say it worked fine with my finish nailer as well. While it will not replace my primary compressor, it's going to be nice on those jobs where high volume psi is not required. Out of curiosity, I'll probably try it out on my framing gun to see how it performs.

I recently received my Bostitch Trim Air compressor. Deerso was the Amazon vendor. UPS delivered it in just 3 days. There was no damage to either the factory packaging, nor the compressor.

I'm a self employed remodel carpenter. I needed to replace my recently deceased, 8 year old Porter Cable 4 gallon pancake compressor. My new compressor would have to meet 4 criteria:

* Light weight. I already own a 65 pound, cast iron, oil cooled behemoth. Though it's great for spraying drywall texture and production wall framing, I'm getting too old to lug it around when I only need to nail up some kitchen cabinet crown moldings.

* Powerful enough to also run my framing nailer. Most featherweight compressors are only designed to be used with brad nailers.

* Reliable. A poorly made tool that breaks when you need it is useless, no matter how little it costs. This is going be my every day compressor.

* Noise level. This is more of a factor for my clients than me, since I wear hearing protection almost constantly while on the job. At 75 db, the Bostitch was one of the quietest in its class.

After researching all of the lightweight models available, the Bostitch Trim Air proved to have the highest CFM @ 90 psi in the 20-30 pound weight class. I've owned and used several Stanley/Bostitch pneumatic tools before, and never had a problem with any of them.

Upon removing it from its packaging, I'll admit, I was a bit disappointed. Although the photos of it looked rather cool; unlike any compressor I'd ever seen before (kinda like a cartop carrier, racing bicycle helmet, or maybe an 'AlienWare' computer?), the fit and finish seemed rather cheap, almost toy-like. From top to bottom, this thing looks fragile. The weak, spring loaded ON/OFF push button, the wiggly regulator/pressure gauge/hose fitting assembly, the flimsy powercord wrap tabs, all look vulnerable. And the first time I drained the moisture from the tank, the petcock fitting refused to close completely, until I was forced to over-tighten it with a pair of pliers.

However, the CAP1516 does perform as advertised. At just under 20 lbs. , hauling it in and out of the truck is a pleasure. It is surprisingly quiet, compared to any other compressor I've owned; about as loud as a quiet home vacuum cleaner. It rapidly fills its 1.6 gallon tank with 125 psi, though there is no gauge to indicate anything other than outflow (regulator adjusted) air pressure. And I am able to sink five 3" framing nails into old doug fir framing lumber with it, before it needs to refill the tank. You won't be able to nail off a subfloor like a machine gun, or frame a house with it, but it will capably handle a roomful of baseboard, or slam in a few wall studs.

All in all, the Bostitch Trim Air compressor did meet most of my requirements. I'd have to say the "contractor" label Stanley has given it might be a bit of a stretch. This unit seems more likely to excel as a homeowner compressor. If you're not too hard on your tools, it will probably prove durable enough.

At around $150, IT IS WHAT IT IS...

UPDATE 1/22/13: It's still alive and kicking after four years of fairly steady professional carpentry duty. The cord wrap tabs broke within six months, the tank drain still needs to be opened and shut with pliers, the regulator assembly has rattled itself crooked and lost a tiny screw that attached the gauge dial face, which has shifted about 1/4 turn from where it used to be, rendering it uselss. So now I just hope it's still providing the same 100 psi.

The unit has payed for itself many times over during the past four years, not only because it keeps on quietly pumpin', but because my back has received a bit less strain due to its low weight.

It remains a solid three star product, although I might look to HarborFreight for my next lightweight compressor when this one eventually croaks.
