Black & Decker CV6B / Vector VEC004 /  Travel Mate / Rubbermaid / 6.0 Amp AC/DC ConverterThis is a must have if traveling with a 12V Thermoelectric Cooler, or any 12 volt appliance that you will need when out of your vehicle. That could be for a overnight motel stay or for an extended stay without a direct 12V power source. All you need is a 110 volt wall outlet.

I have used this use this on my Koolatron Voyager Thermoelectric Cooler P-27 as well as my B & D cooler for quite a few years now with no problems.

This converter is compatible with B&D cooler's, but will also work well with most other coolers and 12V appliances provided they don't have over a 6 amp power draw, " Most are under 6 amp ". This works well for pre cooling your cooler before putting it in your vehicle. It also has a green LED light to let you know it is on.

The Converter will get quite warm when in use this is normal, all converters do it. When you buy a converter make sure it is 6 Amp, much less than that probably won't work on some larger appliances.

I used this converter to power a Koolatron cooler almost every night for two weeks of a road trip. It kept the cooler working in the hotel rooms. I did notice that it would get fairly warm during the process though, so I took extra pains to set it on smooth surfaces such as a table or on smooth flooring. That extra precautions is why it only received 4 stars instead of 5.

I purchased this to use with a 12V floor jack that is designed to plug into a car's cigarette lighter socket. I needed something with enough current to power the jack which I use to lift my car to change/rotate tires. I use this in my garage plugged into the wall outlet in order to avoid draining the car's battery. This unit gets warm when it's in use but not hot. It has a lot of vents on the case to allow heat out and also a green power LED and very long power cord. If you have a 12V device that can only be plugged into a car's lighter socket, this product will come in handy. One last point, this product could also be used as a general 12V power source which in my case means I could power my DC battery charger with it. It allows me to use my Turnigy Accucel-6 RC battery charger at home through the wall outlet. You will need a lighter plug to banana plug or alligator clip adapter though.

This adapter provides the power for their thermoelectric cooler. It does the job adequately and is quite useful for getting the cooler cooled down prior to travel. An excellent product.

The advantage to this Goodyear hose is that it is made out of industrial grade rubber instead of vinyl. What that means is that when you are using it instead of being stiff like vinyl it remains soft and flexible, so it lays flat on the floor. This is especially a problem in colder temperatures. It's great for coiling as well, it doesn't fight you.

The real frustration of using a vinyl hose is that it can stand up while moving across the floor, high enough to snag on things, or even pull something onto the floor. The hose is in a coil, then instead of simply uncoiling, the vinyl has a memory and wants to look more like hoops moving over the floor.

This hose comes in 3/8" which is the most popular size. The 1/4" hoses restrict air flow, which is especially important over a 50 foot run.

All in all highly recommended. The advantages are worth it even if it was twice the price.

Having used just about every type of air hose on the market, I can say the yellow Goodyear hose is second to none. It is very durable and stands up to the wear and tear of jobsite use. The coupler ends maintain excellent wear and far outlast other less durable hoses.

I bought this air hose under the impression it was a genuine goodyear air hose. It's not; it's a knockoff. The hose may or may not work fine, but it's not a goodyear hose. This is a genuine goodyear air hose. This was confirmed by the manufacturer of the real hoses; see hobbler's 1 star review and check the comments.

I didn't suspect much until I got the hose and noticed a couple of things. Though it seems to be hit or miss, the fittings on mine were mis-threaded as well. I tried to attach this hose to a hose reel and the fitting was very difficult to thread and only went on a few turns before not being able to go any further, even with a wrench. Also, the hose itself did NOT have the Mit diamond trademark signifying a genuine goodyear hose, and the goodyear markings that are there were put on sloppily and were starting to rub off.

Like I said, the hose may or may not work fine; I couldn't get mine threaded to even try it so 1 star. Others seem happy with it, and that's great, but I don't like to be duped. Don't sell me a harbor freight hose at goodyear prices. The genuine goodyear hose is only eight bucks more so I bought one of those and this one is en router back to amazon for a refund.

Amazon needs to get on the ball with these counterfeit items. I had a similar experience with a belkin USB cable, where it was supposed to be belkin, yet the cable was absolute garbage, extremely generic and anorexicly thin.

A cheap airhose (made from PVC, usually) is a pain. They stay coiled when you uncoil them, and stay straight when you coil them. A high quality rubber hose makes a huge difference. It sounds trivial, but it really makes managing hoses easier. When I'm in the shop, or out on a job I want to be able to run the hose out quickly, and coil it neatly when I'm done. A high quality rubber hose like this one makes it easy.

My Goodyear hoses have been in service for a long time and are tough enough to last for many more years.

I also appriaciate the fact that it's made in the USA.

One extra tip lay out your hose, then connect it to the tank. If you connect it to the tank when it's coiled, it'll fill with air and be harder to uncoil.

I recently puchased one of these 50' hoses for my new DeWalt twin tank air compressor. This is by far the best 50' hose on the market today without question. It remains totally flexible in cold temperatures unlike those vinyl coiled hoses on the market. It also lays flat when in use and does not coil up in places. You don't have to worry about tripping over this hose. The couplings at each end of the hose are very high quality and the yellow color is very noticeable to keep others from snagging the hose and tripping on it. The 50' lenght is perfect to allow you to move about freely and not relocate your compressor often. This is a great product and the price is right. Get one of these. You will be glad you did.

Reliable, works well. The tool includes a complete set of replacement gaskets, safety glasses, hammer, wrenches, and oil. This is my first foray into nail-down flooring. I have floated several engineered floors, but wanted nail-down for a small remodel job. I used this tool to install 5/8 hand scraped birch. This is a heavy tool so you need to be careful not to damage your floors if you are installing pre-finished wood. I used 1-3/4" L-nails (you will probably only be able to find 2" L-nails at the box stores.) Be sure to practice with some test strips before installation. Use a moderate blow, too light and the nail will not fully set and you will have to manually set the nail. If you strike a very heavy blow, you may damage/split the flooring (I set my compressor to 90 psi, which is rated at 4.2 cfm at that pressure, your results may vary depending on your compressor settings/performance). There is a removable plastic sole on the tool and an additional one in the box, make sure you are using the correct one for the flooring width. As a DIY'er, you won't be working as quickly as the pro's, but if you are careful you will have very nice results with this tool. Even for a small, job, the price is well worth it.

Had the comp 1 year when motor went out. Phone rep said voltage supply may be too low. Service tech and electrician said supply was fine. $300 new motor from the factory. 1 year later, motor fried, $200 rebuilt motor. 10 mo later, pump died.

In fairness, I use this moderate to heavy use. When on the phone with the rep, I explained that I bought this "heavy duty" compressor specifically because it said right on the lable, "rated for continual use.". Her EXACT words were, " Oh, that's a little misleading. What it means is that there's a continual air supply." Wow.

My advice is skip ANYTHING with Ingersol Rand on it. This is not the first piece of crap I've bought thinking it was "heavy duty" by them, but it is the last. They price all their stuff as if it's built to work, but I've found the hard way that it's all made of the cheapest junk they can find.

This is the worst air compressor I have ever owned. I bought it new from a local distributor (Precision Pneumatics) and had it in operation for all of 2 months before it gave up. I called Precision Pneumatics and they came out IMMEDIATLY to evalutate the problem.It appears that the motor burned up. They removed the motor and then a couple of days later removed the entire unit. They gave me a loaner (thankfully) to use while they fixed the IR. I have been using their loaner (not an Ingersoll Rand by the way) almost two weeks now without a problem.

I got a call today from Precision Pneumatics saying that they were refunding my money because IR has been less than cooperative with the warranty. IR told them that it could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to 2 years before they were able to get a replacement unit/motor out for the warranty.

In order to save a customer and do the right thing Precision Pneumatics will be giving me a refund on the IR and they will fight with IR. Thank goodness for shopping local and using people who care about doing business the right way....too bad I can not say that about Ingersoll Rand.

This air compressor is identical to my Ingersoll Rand SS3L3 compressor that I purchased through Northern Tool in the early summer of 2005. This is the first air compressor that I have ever owned, so it was a learning experience from the start.

It is recommended that you purchase the IR SS3L3 startup kit as the compressor is delivered to you without any oil in it. In some cases the warranty is not valid unless you have purchased the startup kit.

One thing I immediately noticed was that the pressure switch was flimsy. When I plugged in the compressor to test it out, I found that the motor continued to run even as the gauge on the tank passed 130 psi. As it creeped closer to 135 psi (the limit printed on the tank), I pulled the plug. I ordered a new switch from Ingersoll Rand for ~ $35 and this fixed the problem. Perhaps I could have made a warranty claim, but it was easier to order the switch as there is an authorized IR dealer nearby and I had the switch within 2 days.

I ran the compressor off and on for several months without any major issues. I used it for several things... a little bit of die grinding, I rotated the tires on my car using the impact wrench and air ratchet, I used it to blow dust off my work bench and check the air in my tires on a routine basis. I bought the compressor because I have several project cars, and I would like to begin the serious work of restoring them. Recently, I have been looking at plans for a sandblasting cabinet, and I am starting to doubt that this compressor will stand up to the task of sand blasting for extended periods. Things I have learned about the compressor since its purchase that have led me to this conclusion:

1. This unit uses a 3 HP "split phase" motor, which can be run on a standard 30A 230V household outlet it draws about 15A during continuous duty. (I swap between my compressor and my dryer on the only 230V outlet in my house). The motor does not output a true 3 HP at all times. At startup the motor may approach its 3 peak horsepower, but during normal operation it may only be outputting half that power, so in truth it is essentially a 1.5 HP motor. This borderline false advertising is similar to peak and RMS power ratings in audio amplifiers, though it is fairly standard operating procedure to rate motors in this fashion. It is not a question of efficiency it is an intended feature built into the windings of the motor.

2. The motor runs at 3450 RPM. Though it is quieter than a direct drive unit like the 30 gallon compressors sold at most hardware stores, 3450 RPM is still quite fast. With the pulley ratios, the compressor crank spins at 1200 RPM. Heavier duty systems might have the AC motor running at 1200-1750 RPM with the compressor running at ~700 RPM or less, resulting in a much quieter setup. If I could do it over, I would consider a slower, beefier unit with a true power rating that runs at a slower, more quiet speed.

3. There is apparently no available rebuild kit for the compressor itself, according to the local IR dealer, though they do sell gaskets and the oiling kit. It is a very simple design, consisting of essentially three parts; a cylinder head, cylinder block, and crankcase. It is a two cylinder, single stage compressor. The "valves" in the head are what I believe are called "reed valves", which are simply spring loaded "fingers" that cover holes in the cylinder head, and they move with the blowing/sucking of air as the pistons move in the cylinders (no mechanical actuation of the valves). The pistons are aluminum, and though I measured, I don't remember the diameter... something on the order of 60 mm. The rods are also aluminum, and there are no rod bearings. The crankshaft is cast iron machined at the journals, and the aluminum rods rotate on the crank without any rod bearings. The crankcase does not have a removeable oil pan, and the cylinder block bolts to the crankcase. I was somewhat disappointed to discover the absence of rod bearings and the use of aluminum rods.

4. The compressor can run fairly hot, especially when pressurizing the tank from zero pressure. I would like to add an intercooler in line to the tank as the compressed air is quite hot, and I think the compressor itself could use some more cooling. I bought some copper to fab up a larger heat sink for the compressor housing, though I haven't made it yet. I think this will make the unit run much cooler, and therefore extend its life. The flywheel on the compressor is designed to move air over the unit, but I still think the design needs improvement.

5. There is a flimsy petcock drain valve in the bottom of the tank that is difficult to access. It is irritatingly small, difficult to reach, and awfully flimsy. I have not yet installed a regulator and filter in the system, and I haven't checked how much condensation has collected in the tank. I would like to replace this drain valve, if possible, though I have been putting this off simply because I don't want to lay down on the floor and fiddle with it. (Note: Added 10/10/06 I added a Swagelok right angle 1/4" male NPT to 1/4" tube adaptor to this drain orifice, then plumbed 1/4" tubing out from under the tank and connected this to a ball valve. I angled the tubing downward so that condensation is sprayed in pretty patterns on the floor. On any given day I release about 1/4 cup of oily, rusty, watery residue. This makes me want to install a condensor between the compressor and tank).

6. I have made several trips to the hardware store to find the correct fittings to get the unit running properly, though most fittings were readily available. It seems to me that a lot of the fittings on the system are kind of cheap, though I am used to the Swagelok fittings that I use at work, which are expensive and well worth the price. Copper tubing is used to route compressed air from the compressor to the tank, and I think some improvements could be made there, as well.

7. The oil reservoir drain plug is on the bottom of the crank case, however this is no practical way to drain the oil without spilling it all over the top of the tank. One could remove the compressor to change the oil, but a better soultion would be to insert a ball valve in the oil drain plug for easy draining. I have not yet done this, as I'm procrastinating over the necessary oil spill that will come with project. I suspect that the threading on the oil plug is standard NPT like all of the other fittings on the tank possible 1/4" or 3/8".

IR sells the SS5L5, which uses the same 60 gallon tank, but a 5 HP split phase 3450 RPM motor running a different two piston single stage compressor. For someone considering more power, this unit is still quite affordable, but it will still have some of the drawbacks of this system. It turns out that 5 HP is about the most one can get out of a 30A single phase 230V household circuit without flipping breakers.

My biggest complaints are the use of the split phase motor, the relatively cheap design of the compressor (aluminum rods and lack of rod bearings), the flimsy pressure switch, and the cheap fittings used all over the machine. I will continue to use this unit for some time, but I am already considering either building my own low RPM, true 4-5 HP air compressor from various parts suppliers, or just purchasing a new one from a company like Eaton Compressor. Ingersoll Rand makes the Type 30 series which is a step above the SS series, and I have considered these units as well, but I would almost feel safer building the unit on my own so that I know exactly what is going into it.

For someone that needs something better than the cheap 30 gallon direct drive units sold at most hardware stores, this unit is more than adequate. However, if you are considering something for medium-heavy duty, you might want to consider something with a little more quality, and therefore more cost. Like houses, I think good advice for someone looking to buy an air compressor is "buy the most you can afford". I for one like the idea of a compressor running at a quiet 750 RPM at a mere 73 dBa, as opposed to my high revving 1200 RPM SS3L3.

(Note: Added 10/10/06 -As far as safety is concerned, this item will never blow up and injure anyone IR has installed safety valves all over this tank as the other reviewer mentioned. IR would never permit such a liability to pass into the hands of the consumer, of course. Meanwhile, my criticisms of this unit are based on what I'd like to see in a compressor, that is all. I thought I was paying for more than I got.)

And as a final note, I will say that IR has excellent customer support. With authorized IR dealers all over the country, getting parts (like gaskets, pressure switches, and oiling kits) is pretty painless.

I purchased I/R SS3L3 from a local supplier. After carefully transporting the very top-heavy unit home and safely attaching it to the floor the electrical connections were made using 6' of 8 gauge wire. The breaker was turned on and instead of a nice new compressor sound, there was a bright flash and lots of smoke. Bad electric motor.

Ingersoll Rand customer service received a call from me the next day. The customer service rep answered quickly, did not make me wait on hold, asked only a few questions and cheerfully shipped me a replacement motor which arrived in 2 days. It was easy to replace and the compressor is now working properly.

Bottom line... Bad things happen. I'm glad I chose a manufacturer that supports their products.

I bought this air compressor and It worked well for my cabinet shop, till it stopped working. So I called the tech support line and I told them that I purchased it 14 months prior and they replied it was past the warranty and I said that's fine I needed the start capacitor. And that's when it turned for the worse..." Well we don't sell the capacitors, you need to buy all new motor" so I called the motor manufacture and the only way I can get a $10 capacitor is to buy a carton of 25. So I'd recommend choosing a company who has a "honerability " or at least one who sells parts to fixes it crapy products!!!

It has been working for a few months now and hasn't failed me yet. Not that I expected much from this compressor, but it can pump out only about 60PSI constant on most tools. I can use my impact drill for about 10 seconds straight before the pressure gets too low, but for uses like refilling tires, it has plenty of pressure and capacity to get things done.

I agree with the other reviews. I bought this hoping it would work ok and I didn't expect much since it was only 40.00 dollars at Harbor Freight. But it isn't worth even 40.00 dollars. You can't use it to blow dust off things because it runs out of pressure right away and it is constantly running the engine that has a high pitch noise that is too much for me. I'm taking it back and getting something with more than .6 SCFM at 90 psi. This is worthless to me.

I purchased this from Harbor Freight Tools for around $30 after sales and coupons. Even at $30 this was a wast of money.

I was thinking I could use it blow dust off my work bench, or air up tires. It does not produce enough air to even do that much.

It takes a long time to get up to pressure, and virtually never turns off.

What makes the bad is that the motor runs at the resonance frequency of the tank. So anytime the thing is plugged in it makes a high pitched whine.

For doing trim work, it has plenty of air and keeps up with the nailer just fine. It is light and easy to move around and most of all it is very quiet.

The air compressor is real loud. Works well when it is fills up properly. Small enough to fit under a display case.

I researched many HVLP and LVLP sprayers before buying this because I have a small air compressor with only 1.5 Gallon storage capacity and 3CFM at 40psi. Many discussion groups simply tell you that with such a small compressor and low CFM, you can not hope to get good atomization and spray results with any type of gun. But having used this LVLP 1.3mm gun (I have yet to use the 1.7mm nozzle), I was really amazed at the quality of the spray at just 20 PSI setting at the gun inlet with trigger fully pulled and spray pattern set to circular (but 65 PSI setting at compressor). It needs about 25 PSI if you adjust the spray pattern to fan-shaped because some air has to be diverted to shape the spray beam through the nozzle horns. The design of the gun gives you very fine control of the air volume, paint density and spray patterns. If you compare this design with some of the most expensive IWATA guns (e.g. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=ast-39570) , they are similarespecially the location of the air-volume control knob. Somehow, I feel that an in-line adjustment creates less turbulence in the internal air stream than the transverse type of adjustment (e.g. http://www.spraygunworld.com/products/Titan/19200.htm). By playing around with the 4 parameters of a: Pressure at Compressor, b: Pressure at Gun inlet, c: Paint density, d: Air volumeyou can get good atomization and spray results. BUT something has to giveat the fine atomization needed, the amount of materials sprayed is less than that from a higher CFM gun. I guess this is plain physics of balancing the amount of air and paint whilst maintaining atomized droplet sizeless air means less paint. For the occasional projects around the house, I feel this reduction in speed of coverage is amply compensated by the nice professional results that you can get out of these LVLP guns. Compared to brushes, the results are much better and the paint covers 3 times more area approx. The guns are well made with chrome all round.

A6034 is priced low but still provides good quality spray like more expensive units. Sprayer nozziles are 1.3 mm and 1.7 mm, which can produce good quality paint.

It sprays polyurathane, stains, and all types of oil-based finish materials without having any trouble. The output quality is fairly good.

I used 1.3mm nozzle to spray urethane for bookcase finish. I could spray the stain easily and achive the very consistent output. Also I sprayed the final finish and its surface is silky smooth. That is the point I'm happy for the purchase of this gun set.

The entire finish process for bookcase was much faster than brush painting, took less than 1/10 of time. Also it uses very small amout of paint. Due to lvlp, it saves a lot of materials.

Clean up was easy too. Just pour mineral spirit a little in the cup, rinse it, and spray through the gun. It cleans up real easy. I've used this gun more than 10 times now, so far have no problem using this way.

But I've had ample problem on spraying latex paint. I dilued latex paint with water and tried floetrol also. Neither way was working well, it just spatters because latex paint needs bigger nozzle, at least 2.0mm.

I tried to contact this company and found the web site, but all facilities are in China and Taiwan. Sent emails twice to inquire about purchasing bigger nozzles, but haven't received any response from the company or their CS over a month.

So I decided to buy PC PSH1 with 2.2mm nozzle kit to spray latex paint.

Overall Ampro quality is good enough as long as you spray oil-based finishes. Also the gun set is not for automotive type fine finish. If you need that fine finish, you have get a gun, which has nozzle size less than 1.0mm.

I've been holding off purchase of an HVLP spray set up for two reasons. Fisrt, the gravity systems have required 8 to 12 CFM airflow to operate properly and two, the turbine systems are yet another item to store in an already overcrowded garage / workshop.

These guns operate nicely on 3 to 4 cfm at 30psi and they works great with my 3 gal shop compressor, even on larger furniture. I've been spraying two coats of General Finishes Milk Paint followed by wipe on Glaze with two or three coats of Water Based Poly (General Finishes). The 1.7mm tip provides a well atomized, easy to control coat with these products. I had one older can of paint that required a little thinning but otherwise I've sprayed right out of the can. These are very nice finishes and readily available.

Cleaning is easy, especially if you go buy the disposable gravity cups from Harbor Freight ($6.99 for several). I just dump out excess paint, flush out with a spray of water and take it to the sink. I've been removing the front fan piece and spray head so that I can run a brush through it but I'm not sure you have to. It only takes a minute or two so I do it.

Overall very pleased with these for much less money than I expected to pay. My only reason for the four star review is that the adjustment knobs could be smoother and of higher quality, minor issue overall.
