I wanted to build an air compressor out of parts that had come mostly from other compressors that I had had over the years, I wanted a gas engine powered compressor, so I took the tank and the pump and located a proper sized gas engine and built a deck to bolt to the tank and then bolted the pump and the motor on to the deck, using this Unloader to regulate the pressure building in the tank, for a continuous run unit the unloader works like the pressure switch on an electric motor compressor. it controls the air going into the tank or lets it exit to the atmosphere,

one still wants to use a safety relief valve as well, I also added the throttle control as well that when the unloader says the compressor is full, it lets the engine go to a idle until air is called for again an then it speeds up the engine and fills up the tank, '

It works well and even on a small tanked electric compressor it will let the motor keep running and not on on and off, I had an unloader on a compressor I used in construction and had both a unloader and pressure switch and by switching to by pass the pressure switch the the unit would then run with the unloader for operations that would cause the motor to rapidly start and stop, it worked well for some operations, (would use it for nailing roof and floor decks)

I've never used a sandblaster before. This was easy to put together and use, just cover up all your skin/ head. It uses way less sand than I thought I would go through. I blasted a barbeque (not recommended) and only used about 2 or 3 pounds of sand I'd guess, so a 50 lb bag goes a long ways. The play sand form Home Depot clogged occasionally with a large rock, which is easy to clean out by unscrewing the tip, and removing the particle, takes about 10 seconds.

NOTE: my dual chamber compressor is not large enough to run this thing. I think it has two 2.5 gal tanks. Here's the problem with small compressorsmoisture. The more the compressor runs, the more moisture the builds up in the compressor and lines, especially in humid climates, and even here in dry Boise it was too much. The water clogs the sand and it won't work. I had to run to Home Depot and get a moisture filter/ remover that hooks on just before the tool, it's pretty small and doesn't really get in the way, about $12. The filter did get some water out, but it was not good enough and the tool still clogged up. I barely got through the job, but I think I'd only use this on a very small job with my small compressor and figure on it clogging after about 5 minutes. I'd have to take it to a buddy's house with a larger compressor if I wanted to do a larger project.

It seemed to work pretty good doing my project on the grass, some sand is good anyhow to help loosen up the grass. Just put a tarp under your project to catch any larger pieces/ most of the sand. I wouldn't try re-using the sand (has junk in it).

CONCLUSIONget it if you have a large compressor, although you may still need to buy a $12 moisture filter (as noted in the instructions), especially in more humid climates.

Draws media well, especially with shortened hose. Reasonably comfortable grip and trigger. Metal threaded tip (chrome end piece in photo) fits fairly poorly with gun body -it doesn't leak air, but the threads scrape loudly. Problem was cured with a stiff steel brush. Gun disassembles well -metal tip, ceramic tip and o-ring, and front assembly all come apart easily. Didn't take the trigger apart. I wouldn't want to strip the paint from a car with this setup, but for smaller items (exhaust manifold, small steel pieces) it works very well.

i purchased this product because i was sandblasting some paint off of the walls in my basement(concrete walls) and it did work...somewhat...it would have taken me six months to get it all off so i ended up just painting over it. the gun gets clogged alot with bigger mil sand.(i was using black beauty)but the price!!! it would have cost me 150 a day to rent a sandblaster from the rental places around me. so it was well worth it especially if you have your own compressor..JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS AHEAD...THIS GUN DOESNT COME WITH A QUICK CONNECT FOR THE COMPRESSOR. had to go out and purchase one seperately.

I bought mine from a brick and mortar store for about 6 dollars more than Amazon. The blaster used less air than a couple of my air grinders. My compressor is a Quincy 5hp that turns on at 145 PSI and off at 175. The blaster clogged about every 10 seconds when I ran it at 145 to 175 PSI. I put a regulator on and set it at 90 PSI. At 90 PSI it NEVER clogged again, and blasted very well while holding the gun 1 to 4 inches away. The directions said to not use higher than 125 PSI. I should have read them before I started. Also, don't push the hose onto the pickup tube until it hits the outer tube. That will keep air from entering between the tubes and will cause it to not pickup sand. I blasted 8 hours without a problem after lowering the pressure. All sand blasters take a lot of air, but I don't think you need one as big as mine to use this.

WOW, this thing is an air-hog. The box says 9 CFM @ 90 PSI and I believe it. This tool will bring any 120V compressor to its knees if you try to run it flat-out.

I was using it to blast the underside of my Jeep with Quickrete play sand. The sand fed great at 90 PSI, started to sputter around 80 PSI, and basically stopped working at 60 PSI. I have a 2.5 HP Ingersoll Rand compressor that claims to do 6.4 CFM @ 90 PSI. Boy was that a lie. I was getting literally 20-30 seconds of decent blasting (basically the time it took to bleed the 20 gal tank from 110 PSI down to 80 PSI), then I'd have to stop and wait several minutes for the compressor to catch up. I even added my 7 gal portable tank into the mix at one point to buy myself a few more seconds with the extra volume.

Richard J. Kinch has a great page called "Evaluating True Horsepower and CFM Ratings of Air Compressors". After reading that, I did the experiments with my compressor and found that it was actually only putting out 1.4 CFM @ 90 PSI. Talk about frustrating! DON'T TRUST MANUFACTURER COMPRESSOR SPECS!! Needless to say, a new compressor is now on my wishlist. And I'm not going to buy it unless they let me fire it up and stopwatch its cycle-time first.

Kinch was also a bit of a depressing read. He explains that there simply is not enough energy coming out of a 15A 120V outlet to generate more than about 6 CFM at 90 PSI, and that's with a two-stage compressor in a perfect world. After you account for the various inefficiencies and losses, the best-case is really about 3-4 CFM at 90 PSI. Given the knowledge that it's physically impossible for a 120V compressor to keep up with 9 CFM @ 90 PSI, the best setup for this tool would be a high PSI compressor with an adjustable "cut-in" point, a large tank, and of course the highest CFM you can get. If the compressor will do 150 PSI and you can set the cut-in point to, say 125 PSI, you may be able stay out in front of the 90 PSI mark. Assuming you're taking natural pauses here and there while blasting, AND that your compressor and power source can handle 100% duty cycle.

This blaster may also preform better at a lower PSI with finer media. The play sand was nice and clean, but a little coarser than I expected. Still, it barely made a dent in the rust and road-grime. I suspect that anything finer would have just bounced off of my project.

Also, forgot to mention that the first thing I did after opening the package was cut the siphon hose down from 10' to 5'. Not sure if that helped or hurt since I didn't test it before hand. Intuitively, it seems like it would help. Also tried converting the siphon from a pick-up tube to a gravity feed set up at one point by attaching the hose to the bottom of an open bucket. I couldn't get it to feed at all. Still seems like a sound idea, just didn't have time to sort out the details that day.

Also, also, this tool will REALLY expose any water contamination problems in your compressed air system. The crappy little water/oil separator I had wasn't doing a thing.

Giving up on the blaster for now and trying a needle scaler instead to knock the big stuff off.

FOLLOW-UP: The needle scaler was DEFINITELY the way to go for my project. Spent about 2 days going at it with a scraper and a knotted wire cup, got about 15% done. Spent a full day going at it with this blaster, got another 10% done. Spent 6 hours with the needle scaler and got the remaining 75% knocked out. Live and learn.

I have a small compressor, and a number of nail guns: framing, trim, brad, and stapler. I found that I wasn't using the air tools all that much because I didn't feel like fighting with the #$&#ing vinyl hose. By the time I had uncoiled it, fought with the tangles, the damage it did to anything in the work area, and then putting it away...if it was only a "few" nails, I just got out the hammer.

I tried a number of hose/reel combinations, but none of them lived up to expectations. Either the hose didn't quite fit in the reel, it leaked, or reeling the hose in was still a chore.

Finally I tried this hose. I had seen it at Lowe's for a while, but always assumed that it would either not deliver enough air, or leak after a week.

I was very pleasantly surprised. The hose delivers more than enough air, although I only use one tool at a time, and at "homeowner" rates of fire. I assume it would work fine in more strenuous use. As other reviewers have mentioned, it doesn't get caught or stick to corners like the vinyl. This air hose is light-weight and easy to coil, with good quality NPT ends. However don't pay extra for this one with the male and female coupler attached. Reason they may not be the size that works with your compressor or tools. I removed them and replaced them with M style Milton set. The M style end would not seat in the female coupler. I wasn't sure if this 1/4 inch hose would work with a framing nailer. I bought it with a Hitachi NR90AE round head framing nailer and a Makita MAC 2400 2.5 hp, 4.2 gal compressor. I've only been using this setup for a month, but so far I'm very impressed. There is plenty of air flow for the nailer. The smooth finish tends to slide over boards and stuff without grabbing like some rubber hoses do. All in all, a great value.

I selected poly hose as opposed to vinyl because it does not keep trying to wind-up like vinyl does. I liked the "automotive" plug and coupler because different kind and types of couplers exist, and I wanted the hose to be compatible with my compressor and a stapler gun that I just purchased. Everything worked fine. I did not need to make an additional purchase.

The Hitachi air hoses are great simply put! As a cedar shingle siding contractor I use air hoses everyday at work at lengths between 50' and 150' feet and after years of using all kinds of air hoses, I'm happiest with these. I've used everything from the 1 year use disposable bright orange ones for $10 w/o fittings that are hard and rigid in mildly cold weather and impossible to coil and use smoothly, to expensive Goodyear rubber hoses. These are super-durable, come with fittings, always stay flexible in cold weather, coil up and unroll easily and another bonus if you're up on ladders and scaffolding all day using a nailer or stapler the light weight is a huge benefit. Heavy rubber hoses are something you notice after spending the day constantly hoisting you nail gun or stapler up. The only drawback at all is that the black rubber flex/kink protectors on either end aren't permanently attached to the ends of the hose and will slide off. Wrap a narrow piece or hockey or duct tape on them and they'll stay, but who cares? The hose are awesome, light, flexible and after a couple years, I have to have one fail.

I was in the market for a small compressor, initially to run an 18 gauge brad nailer for installing baseboards, but also for future use for cleaning, tire fills and running other air tools I may acquire. I narrowed it down to the Grip-Rite, the 1-gallon Senco and the Makita MAC700.

I was hesitant about the Grip-Rite since there were very few reviews, while the Senco and Makita had many positive reviews. However, the 0.7 CFM output of the Senco mostly limits it to running small nailers or airbrushes, while the Grip-Rite touts a 2.6 CFM output. The MAC700 is likely better built and engineered and only $30 more, but I was put off by its 52 lb weight compared to 39 lbs for the Grip-Rite. For occasional light home use, I didn't want to deal with a heavy, oil-lubed compressor.

The Grip-Rite arrived undamaged in the manufacturers box.

It's compact and smaller than I expected. The sticker says its made in Taiwan, which is a nice surprise as I expected it be Chinese-made.

As another reviewer mentioned, there is some swarf loose in the tanks. It could probably be removed by removing the drain valves and using a rare earth magnet taped to a dowel. Not sure it's worth the effort though.

I would certainly not call the unit "extremely quiet" as the marketing blurb does. While it's quieter than my brothers pancake compressor, someone sleeping in the next room probably wouldn't appreciate hearing it. In a detached home with the windows closed, your neighbors likely wouldn't hear it, but in a condo with thin walls, they probably will.

On the plus side, the run times to fill and recover are quite fast. I didn't measure them, but they seem in line with what Grip-Rite claims (50 and 10 seconds IIRC?).

Overall, it seems like a good unit. Time will tell how it holds up.

As a finish carpenter in the field its all about space savings when transporting my tools from job to job. This unit is not as quiet as a thomas but not anywhere as loud as a porter panacake unit. Clients hate the loud noises of a compresor in there finished living area and i never knew how much i appreciated the lesser noise until i got this unit. Its frame on the outside is very durable. I was working on a patio cover and while i was doing my layout the demo crew moved this compressor underneath where they were demoing and i watched a 6"x8"x12' drop right on top of it from 10' high. It bent the tray but the frame cage held up and if i had any other unit it would have been destroyed . The cage is awesome in other words. I use it as a step stool, its light enough to carry in one hand and never misses a beat when firing 2-3 nailers of of it. However im concerned about the longevity of this unit. There are small weld pellets left in the tank that i cant get out that were from when the welded the tank and it creates rust when i drain it at the end of the day. Thats why it has 4 stars but other than that for the price you cant go wrong.

this product is very soft base, which means that when you place your gauge an pressure relief on it, it will strip the threads out before you can get them tight enough to stop a air leak even tho I use pipe dope, also the switch is not much because just a little pressure on it when you turn it on it will break off leaving on way to turn it off an on.

What can I say? It's a switch that turns your compressor on when the air pressure is low and off when the pressure is high.

My old switch would get stuck on and try to blow up the shop, or would vibrate itself off and I wouldn't get any air. I should have bought this one years sooner than I did.

The depth adjustment was stuck on the first unit. Either a minor manufacturing defect or it happened in handling. No biggie; I'm expecting a replacement later today.

I used the compressor to control depth of drive and installed about 800-feet of base and door moldings around 1800 nails, 3/4-inch to 2-and-a-half inches, without a hitch even after bending a few 2-and-a-half inch fasteners into perfect "U" shapes when I hit a framing nail, there was never a jam, never a misfire, and never a problem.

Drove all but a handful of fasteners without using the no-mar tip and left no surface marks. These were painted moldings, and I would use the tip on stained millwork, just to be safe.

It is definitely not 20% smaller than competing units, but it is at least 20% more narrow than any of it's couterparts except (maybe) the new Paslode angled nailer. It allowed me to get into the tight corners without assuming a yoga position.

It seems to have less bounce than other 16-guage nailers. Not a lot less, but noticeable.

16-guage is a good compromise for those of us who do not own or do not want a 15-guage, 16-guage, 18-guage and 23-guage nailer hanging around. The Bosch works well at 60 psi with 3/4 inch nails, and I used it with fairly delicate 5/8 pine and white oak crown moldings from the big-box store without damaging the wood. If I were working on cabinetry, I would definitely want a smaller nailer, but this Bosch is a good compromise.

Four stars because it is too pricey. I'm glad I got it; and happy to replace the damaged/defective one with the same model, but really, for what you get, it costs too much.

There is no oil in the case, only a single no-mar tip, no practice nails, and not even a hose connector. And following a trend, the manual is mostly safety CYA's with very little additional information.

I recommend this nailer, with a caveat: there are less costly alternatives that are nearly as good.
