I purchased this Surebonder 9600 stapler to use for completing an exterior remodeling job involving a lot of aluminum trim. I considered electric staplers but I needed the ability to finely regulate the striking force to make sure that the staples didn't shoot all the way through the aluminnum as well as that they didn't end up getting only partially sunk. Electric staplers don't provide very good regulation compared to an pneumatic/air tools. This stapler worked great. Worth every penney of its ridiculously cheap price. As far as I know Surebonder is the only company making an air powered stapler that is compatible with standard Arrow T50 fine wire staples. I highly recommend this product.

Picked this up for 28.60 shipped. I loaded standard, easy to find, Arrow T-50 narrow crown staples in and set my compressor to 100 psi (max it's rated for) since that is what my roofing gun likes to run at. This way I can run both guns off one tank setting on the roof. I sent two drops of pneumatic gun oil down the inlet. I also added a ball swivel connector (Lowes or Amazon) so that the hose flops around more freely off the gun. I then ran 200 staples through it into very old and hard fir and some super old oak at an unrealistic pace (fast as I and it could go) and it only fired a blank twice. What a great little machine. I need to restretch Harley seat leather on a plastic pan so I tested it on an old plastic pan with perfect results.

I'll add to this review for durability ratings after I've done an entire house roof with felt and batt insulation later this year, but with it's compact and sturdy construction I think it'll be fine for those applications. I have a lot of expensive quality tools, and this inexpensive little gun is going to probably turn into one of my favorites because it'll remind me that now and then you don't have to break the bank to get something that works the way it should. Great buy.

UPDATE: ONE YEAR AND ONE HOUSE LATER. This tool has never let me down and has been used extensively. It spent a lot of time on the roof getting tossed around. Insulation is a breeze a standard hammer tacker is just too brute force around insulation. Bunch of other little projects. Tough little guy. It has jammed only once in thousands of staples and it was due to the air pressure being much too low, not the gun. If you shoot a blank, its about 99.9% certain you didn't have the little tongue depressed all the way.

Only one problem this thing shoots staples so quickly and easily that you tend to blast through more staples than you need to.

UPDATE 21Mar2010: Still banging staples, and a pleasure to hook up to the hose. What a great little gun. Did that Harley seat modification and it worked fine sinking staples in the plastic seat pan. Have had three 'all-stop' jams in not less than 20,000 staples. One was the previously mentioned low air pressure. The others give the same result (a little piece of staple stuck on the firing pin). It is very obvious but it takes a little operation to pick that little wedged piece out of there. A non-issue really as the jams were simple to clear and who knows why the staples exploded... did they hit a nail, or was that particular staple a reject? I'll take one of those jams every now and then for a roughly thirty dollar gun, and 20k staples.

Got this redo the seats on my jetskis. Works great. No more pushing like crazy to compensate for the kickback on electric staplers. I redid one seat w/ an electric and had probably 10% bad inserts. The seat base is pretty thick plastic and the staples loved to turn if you didn't give it major push when firing, but even then sometimes wouldn't go. No worries with this guy. Did a big seat and didn't have a single bad insert. Just hold this in place and let it rip, no upper body workout required. I've probably shot about 700 staples and it hasn't jammed yet or let a staple turn strange (except when I had bad angle, basically my fault). I'd definitely buy this again.

I am a DIYer and using this stapler to install insulation in the basement ceiling. The stapler is light and compact, and has worked perfectly well for me, no misfires. I have Milwaukee and Senco nailers, both high quality, and this stapler has so far worked as well as either of those, for a fraction of the price. The company has also re-worked their instruction manual so that it is now written in comprehensible English. The Arrow T50 staples I used worked just fine. Perhaps the only down side to this stapler is the capacity. It is so easy to use that I have fired more staples than the job might require, towards ensuring the insulation stays where I installed it. While Surebonder has a similar gun with greater staple capacity, at a slightly higher price, I am happy with mine despite having to replenish staples more frequently.

Update 11/24/08:

After approx 3,000 staples, the unit crapped out. I was 97% complete with a project stapling insulation to the basement ceiling and the unit seized and would no longer staple. Fortunately I had the old reliable Arrow stainless steel manual stapler to finish the 100 or so staples that completed my project. The Surebonder was great while it lasted, making my job so much easier, but 8 days and 3,000 staples later, I have an ungainly paperweight rather than a pneumatic stapler.

After advising Amazon of my plight and being told by them to go away, and contact the manufacturer, I had little choice but to do just that. I contacted the manufacturer to advise of my problem, and to my delight, they responded right away with an offer to repair the stapler. I was surprised at Amazon, but the manufacturer made up for it with their handling of the situation. Kudos to them.

I have used this gun now to do quite a bit of siding, using wood siding and fiber cement trim. I have fired short finish nails and longer 2 1/2 inch nails (capacity). It has never, never jammed and never failed to fire if I remembered to turn on the compressor and to load in nails! There have been times that I drove a longer nail from one corner trim piece of fiber cement 1 X 6 into another and it didn't sink all the way, but it was silly of me not to change to shorter nails, so I don't blame the poor gun!

It's pretty, so you'll be tempted to treat it gently, but that isn't needed... it's a toughy!

I'm building a log home and bought this nail gun to install the tongue and grove ceilings. I've used over 4,000 nails so far and have had absolutely no failures. It is light enough to operate overhead all day and at 80 psi will seat a 2" nail under the wood's surface. It fits the hand well and is fully adjustable without tools. The only negative I can find is that it has no way to hang it up while fitting a board. I use it with a small 2.5 HP, 4.2 CFM compressor and it will shoot 12 nails before cycling the unit. The nails are easily available on-line or at your local big-box store and this gun is not fussy about what brand you feed it. I liked it so well that I went back and bought it's big brother, the Hitachi framing nailer (but that is another review).

Pros:

-exhaust can be rotated (air in the face is annoying and dangerous)

-button to spray air (very handy for bleeding compressors at the end of the day)

-great weight and balance, extremely comfortable

-jam clearing mechanism is super easy to use (haven't had a jam yet though)

-very consistent depth of drive

-comes with air fitting pre-installed (no need to buy)

Cons:

-don't like the tip style as much as my other nailers

-no lockout mechanism to prevent dry fire

It's worked well for me on furniture projects, and I don't have any major complaints. It's a great nailer (maybe even the cadillac), but I probably wouldn't recommend it to any of my amateur woodworker friends, because they can get something else to do the job at a fraction of the cost (lots of good nailers on the market right now).

Five stars for quality and design, but only three stars for value. In the end, it's still a five star tool.

Lightweight and I haven't had a jam in over 3 cases of nails hanging beaded pine ceiling. I read a review when I purchased the gun that said "The gun feels like an extension of your hand." They were right.The air blowing feature seems a bit pointless, but it doesn't affect anything.

The spray button is a nice touch. A solid gun, although hideous, and the grip and trigger are nice. No jambs to report. I actually shot 18ga nails in a pinch out of this gun (not recommended!) but it shot them two at a time for a while and still didn't jamb! Why they made it look like an alien respiratory system, I don't know, but form over function here, it's really not a beauty contest. The only (minor) complaint I have is that the large round head/tip is not perfectly tailored to small 2 5/8 crown moulding. It is still possible to get it where you want it to sink the nail well, but if you don't use the tip right you may have to set 1 out of 20 with a nailset which is fine if you keep it in your belt. I do think the tip is fantastic and sturdy in all other situations. Maybe I should just use 2" brads for that mould.

I'm writing this review because the Amazon description doesn't inform you that you NEED 15 amps to power the device as clearly stated in the owner's manual. Unfortunately, I didn't know this before purchase so when I plugged it into my Honda Pilot which only supplies 10 amps, it didn't work. I called Slime customer service who confirmed that all their products require 15 amps.

Check your car owner's manual to make sure your power socket supplies 15 amps!

I'm giving it 5 stars because the device itself looks very high quality with a nice storage case. Slime customer service was also speedy and helpful. Too bad the Amazon item description was inadequate.

This pump is far and away superior to a cheaper unit I had been using. I like the coiled air hose and its screw-on connector to the tires and its quick-disconnect connector to the pump. Also, the pump-mounted switches are more substantial than the switch on my old pump, which was on the power cord and had to be replaced. As noted by others, the fabric carrying case does fit the unit snugly, but I've had no difficulty removing or replacing the pump or air hose in the case.

This 'heavy duty' inflator failed after only a few uses. It was typically very slow to inflate my car's tires, but would eventually fill them to the required pressure. At one point, my tire was very low on pressure and the Slime inflator managed to bring it up to pressure after several minutes. After that, however, the unit no longer worked.

Also, for me, having the unit powered by the car's power socket, and not having a 110V alternative, was inconvenient.

I would not buy this unit again.

The Slime tire inflator is exactly what I wanted. I was seeking durability, portability and affordability. I got all three. The inflator is built much better than most tire inflators in the same price range. It is very portable, even including a handy case so it can be stowed neatly in the trunk. For me, the price was right as well.

I added five pounds pressure to each of my Toyota Corolla tires after receiving the unit. Within two to three minutes the additional pressure was reached. Inflating a flat tire may take up to 10 minutes, but that time is much better than using a hand pump!

The Slime also includes additional attachments for basketballs, beach balls, and other inflatables. The tire attachment screws on the valve, which I much prefer over the common clip.

I recommend this product highly -I don't believe you'll be disappointed if you are seeking an affordable, portable tire inflator!

This was my first compressor purchase. Did a lot of research on line before going shopping and was pretty much settled on one about this size. When our local Menards store had them on close out for $79. I snatched one up. I also purchased (believe it or not) 3 various Surebonder nail/staple guns on close out for only $45. total. The compressor has worked flawlessly through 2 larger upholstery projects (using more than a box of 1250 staples for each) so I am very satisfied.

Update: Almost a year later and it's still working perfectly. I take good care of my tools and have changed the oil at approximately the recommended intervals. The compressor is in my dry dehumidified basement with a hose running to my garage. Water never comes out of the drain when I open it. I expect it to work for a very long time.

I got one usage out of this thing before it's shoddy construction rendered in unusable. After tightening the tank drain valve, it simply refused to open again. After trying several tools, I had basically destroyed the bolt. That wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't for the fact that when I turned the compressor on the valve simply let all the air out anyway. Of course I had to turn the compressor on it's side to get at the bolt. When I did this, all of the oil spilled out of the motor rendering it unusable until I can go get more oil. Not good when I need to put air in my Tires.

Stay away from this compressor. I will never be purchasing Alton products again.

I purchased this compressor because a small, light-weight unit appealed to me. Rather than lugging around my 50lb Emglo for smaller jobs, the thought of having a small unit made sense to me. The unit arrived intact and I immediately put it to use on a small 300 sq ft flooring job. It ran my BOSTITCH Flooring Cleat nailer at 80 psi with no problems. It is suprisingly quiet, light and easy to carry. Needless to say it worked fine with my finish nailer as well. While it will not replace my primary compressor, it's going to be nice on those jobs where high volume psi is not required. Out of curiosity, I'll probably try it out on my framing gun to see how it performs.

I recently received my Bostitch Trim Air compressor. Deerso was the Amazon vendor. UPS delivered it in just 3 days. There was no damage to either the factory packaging, nor the compressor.

I'm a self employed remodel carpenter. I needed to replace my recently deceased, 8 year old Porter Cable 4 gallon pancake compressor. My new compressor would have to meet 4 criteria:

* Light weight. I already own a 65 pound, cast iron, oil cooled behemoth. Though it's great for spraying drywall texture and production wall framing, I'm getting too old to lug it around when I only need to nail up some kitchen cabinet crown moldings.

* Powerful enough to also run my framing nailer. Most featherweight compressors are only designed to be used with brad nailers.

* Reliable. A poorly made tool that breaks when you need it is useless, no matter how little it costs. This is going be my every day compressor.

* Noise level. This is more of a factor for my clients than me, since I wear hearing protection almost constantly while on the job. At 75 db, the Bostitch was one of the quietest in its class.

After researching all of the lightweight models available, the Bostitch Trim Air proved to have the highest CFM @ 90 psi in the 20-30 pound weight class. I've owned and used several Stanley/Bostitch pneumatic tools before, and never had a problem with any of them.

Upon removing it from its packaging, I'll admit, I was a bit disappointed. Although the photos of it looked rather cool; unlike any compressor I'd ever seen before (kinda like a cartop carrier, racing bicycle helmet, or maybe an 'AlienWare' computer?), the fit and finish seemed rather cheap, almost toy-like. From top to bottom, this thing looks fragile. The weak, spring loaded ON/OFF push button, the wiggly regulator/pressure gauge/hose fitting assembly, the flimsy powercord wrap tabs, all look vulnerable. And the first time I drained the moisture from the tank, the petcock fitting refused to close completely, until I was forced to over-tighten it with a pair of pliers.

However, the CAP1516 does perform as advertised. At just under 20 lbs. , hauling it in and out of the truck is a pleasure. It is surprisingly quiet, compared to any other compressor I've owned; about as loud as a quiet home vacuum cleaner. It rapidly fills its 1.6 gallon tank with 125 psi, though there is no gauge to indicate anything other than outflow (regulator adjusted) air pressure. And I am able to sink five 3" framing nails into old doug fir framing lumber with it, before it needs to refill the tank. You won't be able to nail off a subfloor like a machine gun, or frame a house with it, but it will capably handle a roomful of baseboard, or slam in a few wall studs.

All in all, the Bostitch Trim Air compressor did meet most of my requirements. I'd have to say the "contractor" label Stanley has given it might be a bit of a stretch. This unit seems more likely to excel as a homeowner compressor. If you're not too hard on your tools, it will probably prove durable enough.

At around $150, IT IS WHAT IT IS...

UPDATE 1/22/13: It's still alive and kicking after four years of fairly steady professional carpentry duty. The cord wrap tabs broke within six months, the tank drain still needs to be opened and shut with pliers, the regulator assembly has rattled itself crooked and lost a tiny screw that attached the gauge dial face, which has shifted about 1/4 turn from where it used to be, rendering it uselss. So now I just hope it's still providing the same 100 psi.

The unit has payed for itself many times over during the past four years, not only because it keeps on quietly pumpin', but because my back has received a bit less strain due to its low weight.

It remains a solid three star product, although I might look to HarborFreight for my next lightweight compressor when this one eventually croaks.
