- NorthStar Belt Drive Single-Stage Portable Air Compressor - 2 HP, 20-Gallon, Horizontal, 5.5 CFM

- NorthStar Belt Drive Single-Stage Portable Air Compressor - 2 HP, 20-Gallon, Horizontal, 5.5 CFM
  • 2 HP 115V/230V 15/7.5 Amp dual voltage induction motor
  • 2-cylinder cast iron single-stage pump
  • Delivers 5.5 CFM @ 90 PSI; 7.1 CFM @ 40 PSI
  • Copper finned inter- and after-coolers provide effective heat dissipation and less moisture
  • Ball bearings on each side of crankshaft for smooth running and durability

While we had problems with this item, the company was straight forward and honest. They sent us parts when we had an issue with one of the cylinders. Although replacing the parts did not fix the problem, Northern Tool & Equipment had it returned to them at their cost. I certainly would not purchase this brand of air compressor again but I WOULD do business with Northern Tool & Equipment again.

Grip-Rite GR2540LR 2HP 4 Gallon 1725 RPM Compressor With Wheel Kit

Grip-Rite GR2540LR 2HP 4 Gallon 1725 RPM Compressor With Wheel Kit
  • Locking pull-out handle provides leverage for maximum mobility
  • 10 inch (25.4 cm) pneumatic wheels and tires for tough terrain
  • Recessed gauges, roll cage design
  • Electric, direct drive, oil splash pump
  • 1725 RPM motor

First thing I discovered is that this compressor does NOT go to 150 pounds pressure. Took compressor back and got another. Same thing. It goes up up 125 and shuts off. Running air guns at 120 results in it turning on often. I contacted distributor and they tell me 150 is just a general number. Sounds like backpedaling to me but who knows. Wheels are cool but I feel I paid $350.00 for a $150.00 compressor. Buyer BEWARE!

Unit arrived in perfect condition and setup was quick and easy. I am very impressed with how quiet this compressor is which was why I selected this unit. It runs at half the rpm of most brands. The fit and finish of this unit is second to none. It has a very simple yet practical cage design that protects it from virtually anything it would see on a job site.

Hitachi EC89 4 Gallon Twin Stack Air Compressor

Hitachi EC89 4 Gallon Twin Stack Air Compressor
  • 4 Gallon Twin Tank
  • 13 Amp Direct Drive Induction Motor
  • 3 CFM @ 90
  • Only 57 pounds
  • cast iron cylinder for extended life
  • 13-Amp direct drive induction motor for efficient and reliable performance
  • Cast iron, oil lubricated pump for cooler operation and greater longevity
  • Comes with a 1-year limited warranty
  • Lightweight for easy jobsite transport
  • Manual reset thermal overload protection stops the motor in case of overheating

I have had this A/C for years and never a start issue, even at 30*F, but I use their spec.for oil, synthetic diesel type. NOT 30w. Rotella Shell 6T is the best. Use tha in all my A/C's. That is why the bad review . Also you need a 12ga or larger ext. cord if you are using one. 4 stars b/c the design could be better, no roll cage, gauge panel... hard to add filter and extra QD's without them sticking out and almost ensuring damage.

I bought a Hitachi compressor to run a nail gun while replacing my garage roof. The salesman told me his personal experiences had been good with the same model. When running my unit seemed adequate for the job at hand. It was the running that was unreliable. The compressor was extremely sensitive to cool temps failing to start and tripping the thermal overload shutoff. If the unit was left in the garage overnight in mid 40 degree temperatures it would not start. The temperature was never even close to meeting the low temperature range advertised. The starting problem continued to get worse to the point it would rarely start even warm. Another problem developed where the unit would shut off well before reaching the upper pressure limit of 135 PSI. The performance was entirely unacceptable. The Hitachi authorized service center has had the unit for three months and has been unable to get parts for the repair. The first unit failed in a similar way and I got a like replacement within 30 days. The second unit started to fail the same way and I should have brought it back inside of 30 days.

Purchased this exact model in 2002. I use this for cabinet and trim install. Works excellent with 15-18 ga nailers. Even use occasionally for my air drill when installing cabinets. Will turn on after each hole drilled but still maintains enough pressure for light use with this type of tool. This unit lasts. I have used it at least 1200 hours and my regulator went bad( from me banging it in to stuff) and its not worth $100 for the switch assembly( toolpartsdirect). I am only replacing because I get a new compressor for $195. Brand new for $95 more. () Anyway, this is a great buy, considering similar model are $250+ and the oiled cylinder will stay clean and maintain good compression as long as you change the oil once or twice a year depending on usage. Great for home enthusiast, good for commercial/construction.

i am a roofing contractor so i shoot millions (literally) of nails. don't know about the cold weather issues, can't say on that i am in SoCal but i can tell you that these little Hitachi electrics are the best out there. I've used Campbell Haus, Husky, Dewalt, Rigid, POrter Cable the list goes on. Right now i have around 12 compressors.

one of the best ones, for small electric units, are the Hitachi.

I have a pile next to our tool room of broken Campbells and others and for sure don't buy the Husky total garbage (I've got 3 of those in the pile, they cannot be fixed).

Campbell Haus used to be american made, in fact i have a 12 year old gas unit up until last year when it finally catostrophically failed. now of course they are not american made.

If you even take these other models to a compressor repair company they wno't fix them for you. The hitachi can be repaired and it's worth it, usually.

If you want your compressor/tools to last get a good in line filter and water remover (when air compresses, it gets very hot, condenses water vapor and you get water in the line, the tank, your tools, etc). A decent filter can run $50.

if there is a compressor out there "made to work in freezing temps" i've never seen it advertised and i suspect there isn't muich diff between them in that regard but can't say for sure. didn't realize it was a problem, i admit but saying these htiachis are junk, not so, i can assure you.

First off, this is a nicely made machine from all appearances and my out of the box feeling was total satisfaction. It worked well enough, about what you would expect, I was perfectly happy. I spent extra to get a nice tool that I could have for a long time. Unfortunately it will not run when its cold out side. It just trips the breaker, I can get it to run if keep resetting the breaker (like five or six times or more in a row, it take 15 minutes or so to get it running). When I called Hitachi at the supplied number a very easy to talk to man told me that none of the Hitachi air compressors will work in temperatures less then 40, its just the way they are designed! He suggested that I keep it inside and only take it into my shop when I want to use it! Its too bad that they apparently build things just good enough to work under ideal conditions. Do not buy this unless you live in the tropics. Hitachi has lost me as a customer forever! Total junk that cost me over $200. Never again.

Hyundai HPC3010 3-Gallon Air Compressor Kit

Hyundai HPC3010 3-Gallon Air Compressor Kit
  • Compact design allows for maximum portability
  • Oil free compressor pump delivers high performance and no maintenance
  • Lightweight 3-gallon tank with oversized easy to read gauges
  • Compatible with all tools and accessory brands
  • 7-Piece air fitting kit and 25-foot recoil hose included

After following the break in period instructions, I was ready for business. When I started it up for use, everytime the pressure reached 40lbs, the release valve popped and the pressure dropped. I unplugged it, examined the release vlave and noticed that the ring on the valve was jammed and not allowing the valve to completely close. So I unjammed it and the pressure went up without issue in about 10 minutes. The other problem was with the operating instruction. It tells you to turn the knob counter-clockwise when staring up. It doesn't tell you that once the presuure is up you need to turn the right knob clockwise in order to power you're equipment. I bought it to power an upholstery stapler and it worked great! Can't wait to get more attachments!

This was a good inital buy for a first time air compressor buyer. I wanted something better than a plug in pump for bike tires but did not want to break the bank or buy a refurbushed one. This compressor takes about 4 minutes to reach 90psi (max) and automatically shuts off. This is good. The only bad thing is that it comes with no real usable tools (ie tire chuck) and gives pretty bad instructions. The good, it was $100 for an air compressor that I use a lot. The time it takes to fill does not bother me. I am pretty happy with it and after buying a tire chuck I am very happy. Pretty loud while compressing, but a good little compressor. My suggestion is buying the craftsman compressor, you will engjoy a better one!

I bought this for my husband mostly for bike tires and to pump up balls. We had to buy all new attachments because this doesn't come with those. We only used it about 5 or 6 times over the period of a year and the last time my husband went to turn it on nothing happened. Pretty frustrating because it was right when the warranty was up.

I ordered this compressor for light duty around the house/garage. The first time I went to use it, it seemed to work well enough to add a bit of air to my riding lawnmower's slighty-delfated tired. After that, I figured I'd top off the rest of the tires and then move on to checking our car's tires. Sadly, the compressor stopped working at this point. The pressure emptied when I tried to use it and it didn't turn back on to refill itself. I tried powering it off and back on, unplugging it and plugging it back in, and manually depressurizing it. The motor only slight flickered on once briefly hen I was moving it aroudn while examinging it.

I had followed the instructions (including the "break-in" time) but still I went back and dboule-checked to see if I was just missing something. I found no solutions.

The good news is that Amazon was amazing at handling the return. I submitted my request, stuffed it all back in the box, and the UPS driver came the next day and took care of the rest. I've decided to just buy one of these on sale locally.

Looks nice and pumps air but quite, NO! You need ear protection if using in a garage or you'll have hearing loss real soon.

Like Most intelligent farmers necessity and budget are always in play. The need for a commercially available refrigeration unit is part of all farms cool down and storage requirements, yet the availability of affordable

equipment to small farms does not exist, unless it is taken back to the purest form of design and function.

What Ron has done here is recognized that the limits imposed by residential A/C unit manufactures, specifically the

restriction of low temperatures by thermostatic control, can be manipulated. In designing the Cool-Bot he did several things;

1. energy conservation, large commercial units are power hogs, typically three phase 400-600 amps, and they are an antiquated, inefficient method of cooling, specifically taking copious volumes of cold air and moving it into a space that is usually poorly designed and has huge air leaks, the net result is waste, both in terms of energy, and product stored as air mass on leafy greens desiccates and wilts foliage, so unless your stored product is potatoes, you want coiling without excessive moisture robbing air mass. Cool-Bot delivers through your Energy Star unit, cold air without damaging the crop, and saves big money in energy costs, and efficiency.

2. Back up, when your space requires multiple units to achieve the desired level of cooling needed, you simply run more window units, again the often overlooked benefit here is the built in back up. If your commercial unit goes down, your product temps go up and spoil. The repair cost is high, and you still have one unit. With multiple Cool-Bots, you have an emergency back up in place, if a unit went down, the others can maintain temps for that period while you replaced that A/C unit, and since it has not been modified whatsoever, it is under a factory warranty. Now you have continued cooling during the repair or change out, something not offered by commercial refrigeration, with them your down, and your out.

3. Seasonal change. During cooler periods of the year with a multiple unit cooler you have the option of shutting down several of the A/C units for additional energy savings, with the big units, its on or off. So it is time to ask yourself, who brings the best things to life? not just those guys, but us farmers, we feed you, and increase your health with safe local foods, and design and build products that are frugal, and efficient. The highest praise a farmer or designer can receive is from his peers, and I highly recommend Cool-Bot to anyone, for a multitude of purposes. It is the only intelligent choice for efficient energy conscious cooling, and the only choice for 3 Boys Farm, a 365, 24/7 large grower of hydroponic and organic produce. Way to go Ron!

Robert@ Three Boys Farms gives a good overview on the Coolbot. I use the coolbot in my coolroom to keep grapes around 39 degrees F. before I crush. What I have to offer in terms of a review is a demystification of the product for any potential user that would like to know exactly how it works. To begin, it doesn't 'turbo-charge' your air-conditioner. This is largely hyperbole. There is definitely no magic involved.

The Coolbot consists of three probes, a thermometer, a temperature probe, and a heater probe all leading back into a single well sealed package. Here is how it works. After removing the grill from the AC unit you will locate the thermostatic sensor which is affixed to the cooling fins of the AC unit. This temperature sensor is naturally responsible for cycling the AC unit on and off. You will now take the AC's temperature probe and place it in contact with (secure beside) the Coolbot heater probe. The second probe on the Coolbot is a temperature sensor which is placed in the fins of the AC unit approximately where you removed the AC temp. probe.

The heater probe on the Coolbot is in direct contact with the AC's thermostat. The Coolbot heater probe simply heats up the AC's thermostat thereby causing the AC unit to sense a warmer temperature than what actually exists in the cool room. The second probe of the coolbot monitors the temperature of the AC fins so that the Unit doesn't ice up. Ron has taken an extremely simple concept, one that isn't wholly original and created an excellent, dependable, durable and vastly overpriced product that will do exactly what it warrants. I am very pleased with its performance.

I have had a Coolbot in place about a month now. I am extremely pleased with its performance...It keeps my 6'X 9' walk in cooler at an average temperature of 38 F. Great product and a great savings (about 1/6th the cost) over installing a 2 part commercial refridgeration unit

Thanks Ron...nice unit...keep up the good work.

We purchased the Coolbot controller in July 2012. Have been very satisfied with it so far. We have been using it with a LG 15000 BTU air conditioner, in a 18'x7' cool room. We use it at 47°f, for flowers. We had been getting estimates for having standard refrigeration installed. The estimates started at $3000.00+ for a used system. I purchased the Coolbot controller and a new LG air conditioner for under $800.00. It was worth every penny. You save not only in equipment costs and installation costs, but also on your electricity bill. Just follow the Coolbot instructions about installation, and insulation, and you cannot go wrong.

California Air Tools CAT-210DLV DLV 2.0 Hp 10.0-Gallon Steel Tank Oil-Lubricated Air Compressor

California Air Tools CAT-210DLV DLV 2.0 Hp 10.0-Gallon Steel Tank Oil-Lubricated Air Compressor
  • Powerful 2.0 HP(Rated / Running) Motor
  • Direct Drive Pump/Motor for efficient operation
  • 10.0 gallon Steel Vertical Tank with Wheels
  • Portable and easy to store
  • Oil Lubricated Pump for less wear and longer life

I purchased this to get me by until I could afford a larger compressor for my home workshop. I have used it to build a wall, fill and change tires, and do minor roofing repairs.

It is quiet compared to all the oilless compressors I could find, but you can still hear it inside the house when it is running. It fills up from empty to full in under 2 minutes.

The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because one of the quick connect hose fittings leaked and I had to replace it, and it lets the pressure get too low before it turns the compressor on to refill the tank when using a nail gun. The last couple of nails would not penetrate the 2x4 completely before the compressor turned on and needed to be finished seating the nail with a hammer. It had no problems with the roofing repairs using the same nail gun going through the shingles and plywood however.

When it shipped there were several tags and warning labels saying it did not have oil in the compressor. It was supposed to be shipped with a bottle of oil. Mine didn't have a bottle but it was shipped with the oil already inside. Not a big deal, but it was a bit confusing and I ended up draining the factory oil and replacing it with my own to be sure.

Overall I would recommend this compressor for a small home shop that does not require a large volume of air to run tools for an extended period of time, or for the average homeowner that needs a compressor occasionally to fill tires or blow out the sprinkler lines. Good deal for the money.

The box was half soaked in oil. I re-filled it and ran it about 10 minutes. At that point, oil started running out of the oil case. Called the company and they sent a UPS tag to ship back. I returned the unit but have not received a new one yet. Given that it was so new, I requested that they ship a new unit instead of repairing the old one. The high rating is because when it did run, it was relatively quiet and has a pretty quick recovery time. Also, the damage was not the fault of California Air.

Pros -I purchased this for home use.I had a small 6 gallon pancake that was ok but it was a little heavy to carry around, especially for my wife. I like the way this air compressor is designed, easy to move and compact. I received this around Christmas and have not used it much yet, but really liked the ease of assembly. I must say the company web site very informative and easy to navigate. I also called the tech support # and they were very willing to help and guided me in fixing the problem with the check valve mentioned in the cons. Cons -When I first got the compressor assembled the check valve was sticking, this was an easy fix it only took a few minutes.

Doesn't bode well for obtaining a new potential customer. How am I supposed to buy the correct replacement parts that are specific to this brand and model if I can't even find it in their house? Their website doesn't even have a "discontinued" page, pdf's for user manuals for discontinued equipment, etc. This is where customer support starts! You gotta back your product and flood your website with detailed product info! What's sad is that I WANT to fall in love with this brand/model because of the low db level of this particular model and the good reviews on performance. Damn! I will look at their newer models and contact them directly about my concerns. Who knows, maybe I can get a consulting job with them and show them where the weaknesses are! :O) Pay me in tools! :OD
