Porter-Cable CFFN251N Two Nailer 2-1/2-Inch Finish and 1-1/4-Inch Brad and Compressor Combo Kit

Porter-Cable CFFN251N Two Nailer 2-1/2-Inch Finish and 1-1/4-Inch Brad and Compressor Combo Kit
  • 6-Gallon tank
  • Nailers feature jam release mechanism
  • Portable pancake-style compressor
  • Compressor weighs 34 pounds
  • Complete kit

I was looking for a compressor that was easily movable , yet still had the capability to power a nail gun without having to run all the time. I also needed a brad & finish nailer. Porter Cable's CFFN251N, Combo kit fit the bill . The directions are easy to read. Connecting the hoses to the compressor & nailer is pretty intuitive, The operating directions are instructive if you haven't used this type of equipment before. Including reading all of the instructions I was using the equipment with in a half an hour of opening the box. The equipment has performed flawlessly so far. One of the reasons I wanted Porter Cable nailers is that in addition to be being easy to use , it's supposed to be easy to remove a jammed nail from the gun. The nailers are certainly easy to use. I have shot several hundred nails & brads using Porter Cable nails but have not had a single jam. So I don't know how easy it is to remove jammed nails. The tank is not large but at 150 psi max pressure you can drive a lot of nails before the compressor cycles on again. The compressor is not particularly quiet , but the noise is acceptable. The equipment is very portable. I can easily move the compressor to wherever I am working & I have 25 feet of hose that enables me to move around a room without moving the compressor all the time. I would recommend this kit for anyone who needs a brad & finish nailer as well as a portable compressor.

Campbell Hausfeld HL4101 8-Gallon, 1.3 Running-Horsepower Oil Lube Compressor

Campbell Hausfeld HL4101 8-Gallon, 1.3 Running-Horsepower Oil Lube Compressor
  • 8 Gallon tank allows user to handle Heavy duty tasks
  • Cast Iron cylinder, for long lasting, heavy duty reliable performance.
  • Oil-Lubricated pump for robust use and long life.
  • High flow regulator for those large volume air needs.
  • Oil site-gauge for easy product maintenance.

After intense research I compared this unit with the Makita Mac 2400 as well as pancake compressors by Bostitch and Hitachi.

Good points:

portable with wheels (MAC 2400 same weight, 77 lbs, with no wheels, ouch that is heavy, I tried to pick up the MAC in the store)

larger air tank than pancake units, and almost as portable.

good air flow rating (better than pancake units)

inexpensive

oil lubed (should last longer than non-oiled units)

regulator works well but not as good as the $300+ models

Bad Points:

this unit will not work well with air hungry tools like an impact wrench. Not enough air flow. I had to wait for the unit to pump up.

the unit pumps to 125 PSI and then, when using tool and draining tank, will repump again at 85 PSI. When I was using an impact wrench it needed at least 100 PSI to get enough air flow. This slowed me down but I could finish the job.

no quick connector on compressor output (but easy to fix this)

I was worried about shipping damage (as noted in many other reviews) so I bought this unit locally.

The tank is smaller than I would like but I wanted a portable unit. If you have the space, and money, I would get a larger tank unit.

This baby is loud. If I were in the same room with this unit while I was working for any length of time, I would be wearing ear protection.

I Still gave the unit 5 stars because it suits my needs. It will be used mostly for air nailing and only occasionaly for other air hungry tools like impact wrench ect. I plan to use it outside while nailing, or in another room, or at the other side of the garage, not in an in-home workshop, so the noise is not a huge issue for me. The main selling points for me is that the low cost, small size, portability and larger air flow outweigh the disadvantages. I can use other tools, not just the nailers and the unit is small enough to be portable. With pancake units nailing is all you can do (low airflow).

After reading so many reviews of shipping damage, I was skeptical...The compressor was shipped in the Campbell box with a shipping label placed on it and the box was somewhat smashed on the bottom, though there was no damage to the unit...After some simple assembly, and running the unit for 30 mins to break in the motor, I must say I like this compressor very much...I added a filter and quick connects for air tools due to the amount of moisture I can see exiting when using a blow gun...The tank does lose pressure somewhat quickly using an air hammer, cut-off tool, and die grinder, but it recovers fast if you stop using the tool momentarily...Which is a pain sometimes, but it does get the job done...If you seek constant air flow without pressure drop, than this compressor is not for you...My only other concern is that the unit sits on an angle and the level of oil for the compressor may not read correctly...The manual does not refer to this issue, so I added a little extra oil to be safe...just not over the maximum fill line.

This was my second Campbell Hausfeld air compressor and the first one lasted 35 years. This unit is a good bit noisier than my previous one but the tank fills faster. I have used it for about a month and find it to do all that it is advertized to do.

I needed a small compressor for filling up lawn mower, bike, trailer & car tires & blowing off a mower deck or work bench. That's all I got this for & this compressor does a great job for me. If you are buying it for bigger jobs such as running air tools, I can't really comment on that applacation. But I'm happy with this little compressor for what I use it for.

Porter-Cable FR350 Round Head Framing Nailer Kit

Porter-Cable FR350 Round Head Framing Nailer KitThe FR350 round head framing nailer has power plus. It can sink 3 1/2" nails into the hardest wood. It also has a very responsive (but not a hair) trigger. Linger too long, and it will double shoot. Like other Porter Cable products (except for the Bammer a.k.a. Bummer finish nailer), the FR350 is well built. The FR is more conventional than, and often preferable to, the FC that uses clipped head nails. The only problem is trying to find a local home improvement store that carries round head nail strips. However, they are readily available on-line and at building suppliers that cater to contractors.

Ninety percent of nail gones are not equipped with a case, which this one comes standard with along with safety glasses and oil. The magazine hold 2 strips or 72 nails. Its operating pressure ranges from 70 to 120 psi. The tool weighs in at 7.5 lbs which is actually farelly light for a framing nailer. This tool fires like a dream it is extremely low maitenance and exceptionally dependable. Ive replaced my o rings 1 time in three years of steady usage, and that is almost unheard of.

I have used the Senco nailer for years until recently it had been stolen. I decided to give the Porter Cable a try. My finish nailer & Router are both PC and I have had no problems with them and I use them both everyday. I have used the Senco & Hitachi guns and found that I like the Porter Cable best of all. The Porter Cable trigger isn't as sloppy as the Hitachi and not quite as tight as the Senco. The gun also seems to be quite lighter than both of the other guns and not as bulky as the Senco. Also another plus is that the box is not as big as the Senco box. All in all I have found that I enjoy the Porter Cable gun better than both of the other guns that I have compared with. You definitely get your money's worth with this gun and if carpentry is how you make a living like myself, you will not have to worry about going hungry ! 5 Star Gun

I read the reviews of the FR350, and they convinced me to buy the tool. I will say this at the outset, the FR350 does NOT need a large compressor. I have a "pancake" type that does quite well with it. Finding nails was a bit of a chore at first, until I went to Home Depot and told them what I needed. There they were in the nail aisle.

The tool itself feels solid, and drives nails like there's no tomorrow. I am rebuilding a basement with this and I would never have tackled the job without it.

But, and you knew there was a but, you must get the sequential trigger if you are not used to the trip firing method. I had a couple of "double taps" before I put on the new trigger. None since and replacing the trigger took all of three minutes.

This is the tool for the novice, and probably the pro. The case that comes with it holds the tool and accessories nicely.

You won't be sorry you bought this air hammer.

I started building a 10x12 foot shed about 1 month ago. At first I was using the old and arm tiring method of hammer and nail. My neighbor saw what I was doing and loaned me his Pasload framing nailer. It took about 5 milliseconds for me to realize that I was behind the times and needed to get a nailer for myself.

I'm writing this review about 2 hours after I used the Porter Cable FR 350 for the first time. Except for the loud POP of the gun firing (that's why I only gave it 4 stars), each nail I shot went in with great ease. Speaking of nails, my local Home Depot has a great selection. The manual calls for 22 degree nails but the 21 degree work just as well.

I was impressed by its light weight compared to the Pasload. It generally took me 2 hands to handle the Pasload but I was able to use the PC with one hand with great ease.

If your looking for a good nailer with an even greater price, go with the the Porter Cable FR 350.
