SPT WA-1140DE Dual-Hose 11,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control

Its two years since I purchased this and happened upon this link today. I remember doing a great amount of research when I bought this unit. It is NOT like the one being reviewed with 2 stars.

One key point it has two hoses input and output (not one like many units out there). It's very good at evaporating the water it takes out of the room (the two hoses are supposedly responsible for this efficiency). I have yet to empty the tank. The unit comes with a window package that holds the tubes in place (its made of heavy duty plastic).

As to moving it around, no big problems it is a beast to move on the stairs, but ..... its an air conditioner, not a fan.

I normally use it to cool down a 20x20 room (9 foot ceilings). It does take longer than I'd like, but if it's a humid night, it gets the room in a "sleepable" condition in about 1 hour.

The reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the remote control gives you options that you can't get from the panel. If you lose the remote, you lose the functionality (there may be a secret set of buttons you push to get the function, I haven't figure them out yet). The manufacturer's site is lacking in docs.

I bought this AC after reading the 2 star review and I am very glad I did. I live in the college dorms and this AC does an excellent job cooling my room and I have not experienced any of the concerns posted by the other reviewer. I've got a few other friends with Portable A/C units and none work as well as this one.

The wheels roll fine on the dorm room carpet, I've had this A/C for over a month and have yet to empty the water tank, and this A/C gets my room as cold as I could ever want it, and could get it even colder if I so desired.

I got this unit on sale for ~$230 and this has been a great investment.

My unit had great cooling abilities. It was able to easily cool my living and dining rooms, but it leaked water all over the floor. Initially, the leakage started about hour into operating and it really leaked after I turned it off. It seemed to release all water the tank may have held. It just drained onto my floor.

This unit is supposed to have a built in reservoir tank for holding water. The compressor is supposed to shut down when tank is full and a indicator light is supposed to come on to alert that tank needs drainage. I never had a problem with water leaking from the drain plug. The leakage had nothing to do with the water removal hose. It was leaking underneath.

It may have been damaged in transport or it may just be a faulty unit. I really don't know. The reservoir tank is built into the unit and cannot be seen. I had no desire to pull out a screw driver and take it apart. It is possible it was cracked, but it's also possible it's poorly made. Either way, a real disappointment. It was very effective in cooling. I wasn't inclined to try a replacement, instead I purchased a window unit. One other thing, the dual hoses are expandable, but if you expand in an effort to move unit away from window, the intake and exhaust hoses pop out. The don't lock into place well.

Price is good, Delivery was good, After 2 weeks of use--the unit is running very good so-far.

The best part about the unit is---it's the only model/company that has an AC that will turn itself back on after a power-outage!!

Here in Los Angeles, we have many power outages every summer.

When I recived the unit it was covered in oil like substance. I could tell the box had been opened and re-shut. To me it seems like they where trying to sell an item that had been already returned. Now on my second season and runs very well. Temps over 100 everyday now an this unit cycles on an off as needed. No fan noise as other reviewer had stated. They can be damaged in shipping but mine worked better than expected out of the box. Easy install an this unit replaced a GE that only lasted 3 seasons. Highly recommend an the energy star rating is just a big plus........

I really don't know if the negative reviewers have mental issues or not but most of them seem to hone in on the noise emitted by the air conditioner. Hello!..... It's a window unit all in one, how would they make it silent? If you want silent, go buy a split unit so all you have is the fan inside, as they do in Asia.

I bought it Sunday, got it Tuesday and put it in the window in less than an hour. The room is cold, there is no vibration as some others have complained and it's not exactly whisper quiet on full speed but who would expect it to be? C'mon. As far as it going off and on every three minutes, mine has been working continuously for the past hour. I expect it cycles on and off in a different mode.

Look folks, it's a window unit air conditioner. If you want silence, go put some duct work in your house and central air. I'm satisfied.

Oh and one more thing, it was this one or the Frididaire and I wanted to buy American. Good luck. The Frigidaire is made in China so it was China vs. Korea ... hmmmm a no brainer in my decision making.

This air conditioner seems to cool well. What is bothersome tome, is that it goes on and off every 3 minutes.

I usually put my window ac unit on "energy saver", meaning if the temperature is ok, it doesn't turn on. However, this one turns on every 3 minutes, whether you like it or not. In order to check the temperature, it turns on the fan to do this. At night this is a nuisance.

Sizing calculations said I need an 8,000 Btu unit for a 16 x 16 room. In fact, the unit will cool this poorly insulated rom from 95+ degrees to 72 degrees within 2 hours. Other reviewers said the unit was noisy. I didn't have a proper window. so I had to cut a hole in the outside wall and mount the unit. ( It just fits in 2 x6 studs + 1/2 ply + 1 inch siding) . Using spray=foam insulation to sound deaden, the unit is NOT loud, does not disturb neighbors at night, nor cannot be heard elsewhere in the house. [Overall]I am a light sleeper. After doing an extensive searching for a quiet air conditioner for about a week (I even purchased subscription to consumer reports), I decided to purchase this item and I am currently quite happy about it.

[Very quiet. Cools 20x16ft bdrm]I installed this unit in my bedroom and the lowest fan setting is really quiet. The strongest fan setting (there are 3 in total), is about as loud as my regular fan. The size of the room is about 20x16 ft and with a powerful fan inside the room, helping the circulation, it cools the room quite quickly. Occasionally it will turn on and off as mentioned by other reviewers. However, this didn't bother my sleeping.

[Comparison to Frigidaire] I originally had Frigidaire 8000 BTU unit installed. However, not being able to sleep for about 2 weeks due to its noise, I have switched to this one. For people that wants a quite AC, this one will be a good choice.

[Perks: Thru-the-wall slot?] My apartment has thru-the-wall slot for air conditioners. I purchased this item without knowing that this is "windows" type air conditioner. However, the air conditioner arrived on a day that was 97 F and we decided to place this AC inside the slot and give it a shot (instead of cooking inside a piping hot room).

It worked fine. However, compared to Fridgidaire, it wasn't as cold, probably because we didn't place it on windows. However, we decided to cut the styrophome that was part of the packaging and used it to block any hot air from creeping inside. Currently, it shows about same performance as the fridgidaire.

Since Thomas stopped making air compressors I have been looking for something as good. I'm a trim carpenter and use it every day, i've had it for 3 months now and it still works great. The air filters could use a redesign but other than that it is great. At first it cuts off until it breaks in, so the first couple of days are a little frustrating. It's not everyday you can get an air compressor that can be used with 300ft of 12gauge cord while using 3 miter saws and a table saw. Highly recommend.

The log which the regulator and fittings are connected to is made out of a really cheap pot metal. If you have to replace female air fittings be careful not to tighten it like you should. It will break! At least there is another location on the side of the log to put the fitting and the port plug will still seal the broken port with the help of a little sealant. Also the pressure cut off switch has decided to stop working now. Time to contact California Air for a replacement of both.

California Air really needs to reconsider the parts they are using on this. For the price they are asking I would think the could use something better than pot metal for a part that you will eventually need to be replacing things into and a pressure switch that appears to be missing a hose.

Used this for my plasma cutting setup for a project that I just completed. Has sufficient airflow for use in this task, and is much more quiet than my red pancake HDepot standard model that I've had forever.

As others have noted, packaging and shipping are hit and miss. The plastic cover to the control box was cracked upon opening due to the heavy thing shifting around in the box during shipping, but nothing else was bent or broken.

Works well, can run 2 hoses, controls are tight and precise. The starter switch/wire is a little weird and not really crisp when moving to the on/off position, but it seems to be fine.

The sheet metal that hold the gauges is a little thin. May not hold up to direct abuse, but seems again, to be ok.

The purge valve on the bottom works easily and well. Not much water has been coming out, but it is winter and humidity has been low.

So this is as quite as they claim it to be. I'm really impressed with mine but I've only had it for about 12 hours. I bought this because of how little noise it makes and because of how powerful it is. My intentions were to use this in my house to do upholstery work and then to take it out into my garage to run my new plasma cutter off of it. I knew this would be a home run for the upholstery work if it was as quite as they claimed it to be. And as I said it is! No worries about a loud work space with this compressor. Here is where I was truly impressed. When I hooked this up to my plasma cutter and it didn't miss a beat. My plasma cutter manufacture recommends 5cfm @ 90psi with a 20gal tank. This compressor is strong enough to not require the 20 gal tank for normal use. I plan on heading into my garage and really putting it to the test tomorrow. If it falls short I'll update this review. If you don't hear from me buy it!!! I contacted the manufacture after I ordered mine through Amazon and got the updated ball valve on the bottom of the tank. that makes it easy as hell to drain the tank (this should be done every time you're done using it).

Returned immediately. Would not reach 100 psi. VERY small capacity. May pump up bicycle tires, but took 15 minutes to pump 1/2 ton pickup tire from 32 psi to 38 psi. I plugged in a 12v emergency bicycle compressor into the cigarette lighter and it pumped up the tire in 4 minutes.

This is a simple product that should work as expected. The air chuck is faulty and without some luck you will not be able to get air out of tank and into any tire. With extreme pressure and me fiddling with it while sitting on the ground I can get a slow discharge into a tire if at all. I will try to replace the chuck on my own or look at another brand. I once had another one and had the same issue with one I bougth at Lowes. I have had this one too long to return and that would be expensive as faily big and very heavy.

Air chuck does not work with any valve stem on any tire I tried it on. Air will come out when you push with any small object, but will not come out when fitted over a standard valve stem.

I replaced an expired 5 gallon portable air tank with this Wilmar 11 gallon model, and everything seems to work as intended. I did not try using the included air hose and chuck, since I switched over a coiled air hose and custom made chuck from the old tank. However, the stock air hose and chuck appear to be sufficient for many users. The price (about $40) and service were excellent, with prompt delivery. I would recommend getting this 11 gallon tank over a smaller capacity tank which can cost nearly as much.

Two weeks ago, I purchased this item from BrandNewEngines. It was supposed to be factory reconditioned to new specs. Somehow, I doubt it. It arrived in a beat-up box, packed with various random pieces of broken styrofoam in a vain attempt to keep it in one place in the box. Judging from the wear on the wheels, this thing had been used for a while--the date on the tank was 2008, which puts this compressor nearing 2 years old. Who knows how many hours are on it.

To make matters worse, after unpacking the unit , I hooked it up, hoping it ran better than it looked. It ran, charging the tank. And it ran, and it ran, and it ran. And them the emergency valve vented the excess pressure. Nice. Not only old and beat up, but busted to boot.

I've tried repeatedly to contact the vendor with no luck. They seem to specialize in ignoring emails and ducking phone calls. Since they are an "external supplier", Amazon won't help with this issue. Something to think about when you buy. I've never had a problem with Amazon that hasn't been made right, and I've never had a problem with a vendor where Amazon does the fulfillment that wasn't made right.

I'll keep trying, but I suspect I've just made a $300 mistake that will not be made right. Learn from it, and just go buy a new one instead.

Received initial order for compressor and packaging was pathetic. The compressor arrived with broken pieces falling out of the box. Portion of the cast aluminum compressor housing that attaches to protetive shroud was snapped off and cannot be prepared. There was paint overspray all over wheels and rust on pressure tank. There appears to be no quality control or pride at the vendor. This is the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL and pathetic shipment I have ever received from Amazon. I ordred replacement unit and it arrived shipped UPSIDE DOWN in box with no protection. The replacement unit is completely broken upon arrival and does not even work. Now I have two broken compressors. The initial unit still runs, but I am concerend about its quality. Not sure what to do now... QUALITY IS GARBAGE!!

By the way... I still love AMAZON. It is the best! I know they will take care of me in the long run, but I am not happy about this specific purchase.

A few scuffs here and there. A little over spray from the factory recondition. Otherwise, the unit appears to perform perfectly. No pressure loss. A great buy IMHO.

I received my compressor in good time. I think the reconditioned paint job had something to be desired. Once I had turned the compressor on it filled the tank with air as expected. After the compressor had filled and it shut off I could hear air leaking somewhere. I tracked down the leak and with 1/8th of a turn with a Cresent Wrench the leak was stopped. This leak could have been caused by the truck ride. Overall, I'm very pleased with the compressor.

I had purchased a compressor at Wal-Mart 2 years ago that came with 71pc tool set and the compressor wouldn't run any of the air tools it came with. I just finished removing two tractor transmissions, including wheel lugs, axle bolts, and mounts. I do a lot of research before buying my tools, I read reviews and forums all over the internet, and the comments for this gun were better than IR, Snap On, etc. so I decided to buy it considering power, durability, design and price. When I received the gun I made the first test, in which I tightened the lug nuts of my jeep with a cross wrench using the whole weight of my body (220 lbs) until the nuts no longer squeaked and the vehicle started to shake, I plugged the gun to a 3/8 50ft hose at 100 psi using a portable 16 gallon compressor, plugged the 3/4 deep socket, pointed the gun... pulled the trigger fast 1-2-3 and done !! the nut was loose in less than 2 seconds !!... I doubt that I'll find in my jeep any other nut or bolt as tight as this, even if I do I think this gun will turn them loose in a couple more seconds than my lug nuts, but in the end it will do the job. In summary, this gun will be one of my favorite tools, you can't go wrong with this one, it's definitely the best deal you can get for a good quality gun with lots of torque, this gun will pay itself in a couple of projects.

Hello, I am a "B" auto technician, and I owned a Snap-On MG725 for about 3-4 years and it started to give up on me. Rather than get it rebuilt by Snap-On and pay all that money. I decided to try this "Aircat 1150" in a pinch to keep me working. I must say:

Pros

1. It's just as powerful if not more powerful than the $460 dollar Snap-On.

2. They have a 2 year warranty and they sell tune up kits "YOU" can rebuild yourself.

3. It's quiet, to me noise does not bother me, but for others it's a very quiet impact gun.

4. It's not a very heavy gun.

Con

5. This one is a con of the gun compared to the Snap-On MG725. The 1150 anvil where the socket goes on, the snap ring on the anvil does not hold onto the socket very well, it's just the way it's made. The MG725 the snap ring will wear out, but it will not let your socket go easily.

I must say, I think I'll just keep my Snap-On now as a spare, and make this my main gun.

I know one of the previous buyers claims that he did not receive teh pictured oiler, but I just purchased one, and it's just like the one in the picture. Good HD unit, and it's working perfectly. The combination of the compressor with a starter set of most used tools is a good value. The SCFM rating is higher than the typical pancake units so that a small spray gun can be used.

The unit was not adequately boxed given its weight. This resulted in the tank pressure gauge being damaged. An email request for a warranty replacement took two tries but was then provided quickly.

A small amount of assembly wheels, feet, handle is required. Very visible warnings to be sure to add the oil before using. The breakin procedure is clearly described.

It is noisier than I expected. All fittings were tight pressure held.

The supplied tools, while not professional grade, seem adequate for occasional home shop use. The included air tools are a brad nailer, a die grinder with a variety of stones plus cut off wheels and a ratchet with a set of sockets. There were also an air nozzle, tire chuck and a typical assortment of fittings. The hand tools inch and metric nut drivers are junk.

All in all I found the package a worthwhile value and the warranty response was good.

I went through the recommended break-in procedure, then charged the compressor up fully. The compressor charged quickly, but within 1 hour lost all pressure with nothing connected. The driver sets sent with the compressor are very poor quality. Used the air ratchet once, below recommended pressure setting, and it also sprang a leak.

I returned the item for a full refund.

I bought this tool knowing it would be cheap and hoping it would last for a month or so to finish a project I'm working on polishing small bronze statues. What I received was a non-functional tool in a package that had already been broken open. The rivit holding the handle of the tool on had been drilled at an angle making it not hit the trigger. What kind of seller puts a useless tool in a broken package into a box and ships it to a customer?

The first time I tried to use this product I plugged it up to the air and it immediately started rotating, it started rotating so fast it slung the blade off, something with the trigger mechanism is messed up and it is brand new. I do not advise for anyone to buy this product.

When your air compressor intake filter is broken or gone, grit can enter the reed valves of your compressor, and if you're lucky, you'll get 25 psi out of it instead of 125 psi. When you clean up the valves, screw in this new filter if you have 1/2" NPT female thread on the intake of your compressor and you'll be ready to go.

Pros are it has a good capacity, the Cons are that the nozzle is too restrictive. It takes double the time to get the gas out of the can due to the safety feature in the nozzle.

I purchased a model 5600 (5 gal.). I'm not sure if it has the same spout as this #6600. If it does, I would not recommend the gas can (apologies if this review is irrelevant). It is a self-closing spout with a spring (the nozzle must be twisted then depressed to dispense gas). The spring is stiff and difficult to press down. There is a little plastic lip that is intended to hook on the edge of the gas hole which is too small and therefore constantly slips off (shutting off the gas dispensing). Given the angle of the spount, I can't dispense all the gas into my car. Finally, the gas comes out very slowly when it does come out. It is a frustrating experience to wrestle with this can while trying to dispense gas into my car.

I've been shopping around the area and simply can't find a plastic gas can without some inconvenient "leak proof" dispenser system. Why is it so hard to find an old fashioned gas can that works? I can only conclude that there is some conspiracy out there -probably a new EPA regulation (well intentioned, no doubt, but unfortunately resulting in products that don't work). Please, I can screw a simple threaded cap on all by myself. I would have given the product a 1-star, but my guess is that it's not Midwest Can's fault.

To their credit, Midwest Can customer service is very responsive. They are sending me a replacement cap for "gas storage," i.e. a simple threaded cap. I'll just buy a funnel to get gas into my car.

Works fine, spill proof spout is a bit slow and cumbersome, but that's the only complaint. Almost impossible to find a 6 gal can. Use it to store mixed gasoline for 2 cycle outboard motor, 50 to 1 mixture is one pint oil to 6 gals of gas. Just makes things simpler.

I am not going to go into how the nozzle works because it has been covered in other posts. I just want to support the notion that this can is very slow. Not a big deal if you are pouring gas into a weed trimmer but it is a serious pain trying to pour gas into a boat. The last time I tried to fill something it built up with pressure and preceded to spray gas everywhere for quite a long time. I never seemed to have trouble pouring gas until I got my hands on one of these. I would not recommend getting anywhere near a hot engine with this gas can.

I was skeptical about the advertised high air pressure from this tool, expecting that the OSHA approval would require a reduction in airflow to reduce decibels. But it lives up to its claims and then some. Unlike most air nozzles which direct air out of a single opening, this gun has a cone-shaped aluminum tip which is ringed with about 50 or 60 small openings that direct the air over the cone. The result is a very focused stream of a LARGE volume of air. Very powerful flow. Well-built, lightweight, with a smooth-action trigger. Liked it so much I bought 6 more for our production crew, and they love them. You can find cheaper guns, but this one's worth the extra cost.

After seeing that this gun is recommended for A/C system repairs by many, I purchased it. I didn't expect it to be much more than a minor upgrade to my existing blow guns, after all, I have four others, and they're all more or less the same. This gun blows them out of the water. We can blow shop rags 3/4 of the way across the 2910 square foot shop floor with it. It's hurt productivity in the shop for the last week, because we find ourselves playing with it. If you need a blow gun, by all means get this one....

I did assume it would be all metal from the photos, but the trigger is plastic. I'm sure I'll break it eventually, but I'm still going to highly recommend this product.

I purchased this compressor locally after a whole lot of research. I previously purchased a 3 phase Ingersoll Rand at my automotive shop and needed something for the house. I needed a compressor that was quiet but still operated at the higher working pressures. Once you use a two stage compressor, you'll dread going back to a single stage. The higher pressures spoil you and make your air tools work that much more efficiently. The Quincy was the ticket. The Quincy is very quiet. I can talk to someone standing right next to it. I can't do that with the large Ingersoll that I have at work. Due to the Quincy running much cooler than my Ingersoll it hardly builds up any moisture. My Ingersoll has been going strong for over 8 years and is a great compressor but I feel that the Quincy is just built better. The Quincy boasts a 50,000 hour pump life rating. After hearing this thing run, I believe it. It has virtually zero vibration. The Quincy recovers and builds up pressure extremely fast. Most compressors overate their CFM. If anything the Quincy is under rated. If my Ingersoll ever fails at my shop, a Quincy compressor will definitely take its place.

Face it, America sucks at manufacturing compared to most industrial nations. That's been the case since the 1970's. There are still a few great companies out there that deserve your patronage, including Quincy. Ingersoll has a lot of their pneumatic stuff made in China, and I believe they do much of their compressor manufacturing in Mexico.

But these beautiful blue uprights are made right in Quincy, IL. Anyway, enough of that. Here's why the compressor is great:

-Very low vibration. I left mine on the pallet, and I will occasionally set steel parts and whatnot on it. Most compressors would vibrate these right off the deep end, but this guy stood the test!

-Relatively quiet. If you've never had pneumatic tools in a small garage or shop, well you may want to invest in a good set of plugs or ear protection. The tools will be slightly louder than the compressor running, but not by much. Let's just say you don't want this thing turning on at 2AM with a neighbor 2 walls and 50 feet away.

-Efficient for a mid-tier upright. I do fabrication and auto body work, this beast can keep up with a 14cfm DA sander running for hours on end without heating up the air too much. The mark of a laboring compressor is excessive water droplets forming on the tool end, because of the high temperature dropping between the tank and the hose line. I use a milton filter-regulator and do not have water in the line.

Now I've only had this unit for a few months, and if anything happens to it in the next few years I'll be back to revise my review, but I'm more inclined to say that I'll be giving this to my kid in 20 years.

The physical dimensions listed in the specifications are absurd.They say 1.4 pounds and then say what the physical dimensions are. If the magnet had those dimensiions it would weigh in excess of 50 pounds. For experimental use the distance between the poles is needed.

After reading the reviews, I had my doubts about this filter/separator, but went ahead and installed it inline on a bead blast cabinet, and it actually works quite well. After about 10 minutes of work with the bead blast cabinet, I noticed the reservoir was about half full of condensate. My bead blast cabinet is about 30 ft from the air compressor, this length is long enough to allow the water to fall out of suspension and be removed by the separator. I live in central Louisiana, where it's very humid. The filter/separator did its job by removing the condensate so the blast media wouldn't clump up.

It works great if you can cool the air down. Does what it suppose to do only if installed far enough away from compressor to allow air to cool or installed after compressed air chiller.
